Remote connect via ethernet?

I am thinking of getting a Neo N42C-4 for using for Astrophotography, controlling the cameras, capture software and EQ mount. Becuse the location of the controlling Laptop is in a Workshop that has been well insulated with panels faced in ali foil, any wifi signal is very very weak. Is it possible to use an ethernet connection from Minix to Laptop? Possibly using RealVNC. (laptop on Win 10 Home).
I know people are doing this with wifi, so earlier Minix are capable of running all the software required, so the N42C-4 should be no proplem especially when upgraded.
Thanks HughP

Hello.
Neo N42C-4 has gigabit ethernet.
Your laptop must have ethernet also (gigabit if possible).
If your laptop doesn't have ethernet you can use a adapator (usb-c to ethernet for example).

Second thing is installing and setup a external connection (remote).

Another option if you dont want to use rj45(ethernet) is using a wifi extender.

I think best way is to connect both the minix PC and laptop to your router ( or switch ) so both devices are on on the same LAN.

You can the use windows Remote desktop to control your N42-C, that how i connect to my N42-C :)

Thanks both for replying. Looks as though I an tryiny to do something that is not possible. I can not use wifi and I thougt it was possible to to just use an ethernet cable between the Minix and Laptop with out out a router. Sorry for taking you time, thannks for replying.

Is possible to use a cable between minix and laptop.

But the best configuration is both minix and laptop connected to a router/switch.

Thanks, my problem with wifi is it is not available in this location due to insulation of workshop, that is why I was trying to use just a cable, I wonder if it is possible to use a wifi router (switch wifi off) and just use the ethenet ports.

can you not run an ethernet cable to the N42-C from your router (or switch) ?

If not you could look at powerline adaptors , not as good as ethernet cable but normally much better than wifi

This would be a completly seperate network from anything else I have.
Just ethernet cable from the laptop to remote access the minix that controls a telescope that is all powed fron 12v DC.
If only I had insulated the workshop like a farady cage the wifi signal would get in and out! The two pc's will only be some 10 meteres apart. Looks like I will have to just stay out in the cold, and take measures to prevent dew geting on the laptop!!
Thanks both for your imput it is appreaciated.

I use my Minix with a TP Link mini travel router (setting up a LAN) and it works perfects from anywhere indoors to my backyard.
Previously, I used a repeater USB cable which also worked very well. I recently posted my setup on Cloudy Nights forum:

Had a look at yur diagram, a bit more that my aim at the moment, just a Zwo178 on the scope and a guide camera with Shatpcap and possible PHD. There is just no way I can use wifi between the laptop and the minix but an ethenet cable would not be a problem. I think I will have to get cold again this winter!! Regards.

You should be able to connect any two PC's directly using a crossover cable. Infact, with modern NIC's pretty sure you can simply use an ordinary ethernet cable these days. There are simple adapters available to achieve this as well if you wish.

If you wish to go that route, just use a simple ethernet switch or a powerline adapter as @pusb87 has already mentioned. (Example - https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Gi...45868369748:pla-387791301593&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 .)

Better than freezing ya backside off ;)!!

I would look at a crossover cable as Arctic suggested. I've used a powered USB cable and that works.
