Resetting Admin password of Neo Z83-4U

Hello! I just got a pre-owned Z83-4U running Ubuntu, and I am facing a problem: the previous owner forgot the password of the admin account. I assume that I need to get into the GRUB menu as explained at Easily Reset Forgotten Password, but when I follow the instruction of pressing the SHIFT (or ESC) key, I don't get into the GRUB menu. Does anybody know what I need to do to reset the admin password of my Z83-4U ? Any help is appreciated, Holger

thank you, this was a very helpful suggestion. Unfortunately the default login "123456" is not working - I can see that the previous user has set the password to something that has 5 characters, not 6....

Thanks, that sounds like the most sensible approach. So I put the iso file on a stick, and when I switch on the minix, it should automatically detect the stick so that I will be prompted whether I want to work from the stick?

Here are instructions for installing Ubuntu on a Z83-4 Pro. It includes info about the Windows license which you can ignore!
Top tip is not to use the USB 3.0 port.

Thanks - I will remember not to use USB 3.0. The first step in the instructions is "Download the firmware and extract all the child files and folder on the root directory of a USB memory stick".Where do I download the firmware? Is that part of the iso?

The firmware is the iso. You copy all the files in the iso to the USB stick.

You also need to create a bootable USB stick!
Rufus can be used to create a bootable USB, instructions can be found at https://rufus.ie/en_IE.html

Just one more question: now that I need to install a fresh OS, I guess I might just as well switch to Windows 10. I have seen this link here in the forum: NEO Z83-4 Pro: Windows 10 Pro OS image [1903] | MINIX Forum (theminixforum.com) However, I don't have a NEO Z83-4 Pro but a NeoZ83-4U, so I guess that link won't work. Can I just download an iso file from Microsoft or do I need any firmware from minix?
The hardware is the same!
You can install Windows Home or Pro.

You can then use Windows with a small amount of limitation (personalisation) or buy a license.

Using the MINIX provided image means you should not encounter any driver issues.
But you can use an iso from Microsoft if you like then address any driver issues.

All drivers can be found here...

thanks for your help once again. I now got myself a new stick to install Microsoft Windows. I followed the link that you gave for all drivers, and the instructions that are given at NEO Z83-4: Manually install the driver | MINIX Forum (theminixforum.com) say:

1. Go to 'Device Manager' by right-click 'This PC' icon on the desktop, and choose 'Manage' option. (See attach picture step1.png)

2. Right-click the driver with a yellow icon, and click 'update driver' option. (See step1.png)

3. In the prompted window (step2.png), click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.

I assume that these steps refer to a minix that is already running windows (and no longer Ubuntu). Can I use the drivers at https://files.theminixforum.com/shared/drivers/Z83-4_CherryTrail-T3-64bit_drivers.zip straight away or do I need to install the Windows 10 system first and then install the minix drivers?

You need to install Windows first.
You only need to install the drivers if you run into any driver issues!

Thanks. I now got Windows 10 on a stick (iso). My next challenge is: how can I make sure minix boots from the stick? I can't change the boot sequence in Ubuntu because (see my first comment) I don't have the admin password which is why I need to install a new OS (and decided to go for Windows straight away)

unfortunately that still got me into Ubuntu, booting from Minix itself. When exactly do I need to press F11? I pressed it right after switching on Minix.

Yeah immediately, but you need to keep tapping it!

You should get similar to this...

keep tapping it or keeping it pressed all the time? I kept it pressed all the time, but I didn't get the blue screen you showed
