Samba on U22-XJ

First, I apologize if this post is in the wrong place. While I am a long time Minix user, it is my first time posting to the forum.

I seem unable to connect to my new U22 from my Windows PC. I can connect to my U1 from my Windows PC using \\192.168.1.xxx\u1 with ID "root" and password" "123".

On the U22, in MINIX Settings->Samba Switch, I enabled it (Samba is running).

From my Windows PC, File Explorer, I tried to connect to \\192.168.1.xxx\u22 - I expected to get prompted for username and password, but get error - unable to access.
In place of u22 in the address, I tried U22, u22-xj, U22-XJ - no success.

I do have the official firmware U22-XJ - V002_20200330. And yes, the U22 is connected to the network (via Ethernet). Tried with WiFi and same error.

Can anyone confirm if the samba server is working and you can connect from a Windows 10 PC. If so, that is the address used in file explorer, the username, and password.

Thanks

Although there is a Samba switch this feature is not fully implemented yet.

Please be patient, it will be soon!

There is an impending FOTA update but this feature will not be included. Hopefully it will be next time!

Thanks for the prompt update. I will patiently await its implementation in a future update.

I agree and fully support everything that skelly said. You need to implement a full-fledged Samba service at the firmware level. Third-party programs like Samba Filesharing and the like refuse to work on U22 without ROOT.

you could try the root switch which is now available in the meantime

It is work in progress! (y)

Why the Samba switch is there at the moment is a mystery to me without it being implemented!

The switch to the ROOT position is enabled, and Samba is also enabled. And then what ? There are no management tools either ROOT or Samba. All third-party applications for organizing and configuring Samba access refuse to work because they cannot be granted ROOT access. I hope that the ROOT and Samba management and configuration tools will appear in future firmware versions.

i was suggesting turning the root switch on and then trying the 3rd party party programs you mentioned.
2nd option would be to use ftp server within es or cx file explorer or similar. with winscp on your pc

I tried all this, and everyone knows about the Ftp server for a long time. But an Ftp server in ES is a very weak alternative to full-fledged file sharing in Samba. The Ftp server in ES allows you to work on the network with only one disk or folder at a time. If the U22 firmware itself had a tool for sharing and configuring disks and folders over the Samba Protocol, and several disks and folders at once, it would be great.

Hi, maybe unrelated, but I have an external usb drive on the U22, and I know the ip address of the U22. Is it easy to map the network drive on Windows? Trying and failing so far! I did enable "Samba" on the U22 and it says it is running.
