Screen Rotation settings not saving when box is reset.

Hi there,

I work for a digital signage company and we use the Minix U22-XJ as our main signage player. We have been experiencing an issue when using the Portrait screen rotation option - it works fine until the device is switched off, but then when it is turned back on the screen rotation will return to the default landscape setting. Is there a way to save this setting so that it will always be in portrait mode? I have even tried a few apps but they don't save the screen rotation either.

Any help is appreciated!

I just tried switching to 90, then powered off the device. It is still like this when I power on the device!

Which firmware version does the device have?

Do you see this in screen rotation settings?
Or something else?

Thanks for getting back to me Villa.

I'm using V006a.

Yes the settings all look the same and this is where I selected 90.

I'm not to sure what else to do as I haven't seen this issue anywhere online.

Did anyone find a solution for this? We're having the same problem, change the rotation and it sets back to 0 after a reboot. Thanks

Hello, we have several U22-XJs that will not keep the screen rotation settings after a reboot. These units are used with displays that are set vertically therefore the need for the unit to be set in portrait. We can rotate the screen to 270 (Settings\Device Preferences\Rotation Screen) and everything works great until the device is rebooted at which time the rotation comes back to 0. This devices are running build 20210222-V006a and 20200826-V005 (Both rooted versions), the not rooted behave in the same way. Thanks, Geovani

@gaday I moved your post from the thread you started to here.

I will test again at my end to see if there is a solution!

I tried again, firmware 006a, and still for me the rotation setting is still set correctly after a reboot.

Thanks Villa, are you changing the rotation by going to settings\device preferences\Rotation Screen\? Thanks, Geovani

@Villa, it is a mistery and keeping us from deploying 50 devices to the field. i'm testing with units that i'm resetting often. No apps besides what comes with the build. @Marty, i have used several, currently "Screen Rotation Control", the app works but rotation goes back to 0 after a reboot.

Sounds like the units that are reverting are for some reason read only, or along those lines.

If I were you I would create a TWRP backup of a good unit and then restore that onto the rest of your units, if the problem still persists then you know the unit is dodgy as the backup is literally a clone of the good unit.

that's the thing, none of the units work. We have a batch of 20 that were purchased directly from Minix and another 20 from Amazon with the same behavior. Before we upgraded to the U22 we used X39 with no problems.

I was going around with this and found that both Metro and Launcher3 disable the rotation back to zero. However, setting the rotation to a figure and comming back to the upper bar (the hidden one) and selecting the icon with the two crooked arrows seem to keep the setting after a restart but the apps still don't get rotated. I installed Nova Launcher and got the impression that could maybe solve the problem, however I got lost in the definitions of the launcher before getting to a positive answer. Maybe @Villa has a hint from here.

Those with this screen rotation problem may have tried this numerous times already, but nobody in this thread appears to have mentioned changing the auto-rotate screen setting in Settings>More Settings>Display>Auto-rotate screen in 2020612 - V004 that I'm still using in new U22-XJ until I get original V007 bricked U22-XJ unbricked.
