I'll give this forum a shot. Unbutu 18 shipped with this device does not recognize a sound device or the 5ghz WiFi channel. What are the solutions?

Do you have access to a PC? If you do you can install an official Ubuntu ISO and do the following:

1. Open terminal (Usually CTRL+ALT+T)

2. Type "sudo thunar /lib/firmware/brcm" then press "enter" (replace "thunar" with appropriate file manager name)

3. Provide requested password

4. Using the file manager that just opened with sudo permissions rename "brcmfmac43455-sdio.MINIX-NEO Z83-4.txt" to brcmfmac43455-sdio.txt"

5. Close file manager

6. Type "exit" into the terminal window to close it

7. Reboot

8. Enjoy your WiFi

PS. I couldn't do it with command line alone. Command line does not like uppercases or spaces in file names. I don't know. I'm new to linux. I performed this on a Z83-4 Plus running Ubuntu Studio.

I think nautilus is the default file manager for ubuntu. So your commands may be slightly different. You have to change audio settings to use hdmi out, the 3.5mm port is usually the default. For what reason? I can't imagine.

I am trying to use the 3.5mm port. Unbutu see's no "sound device" period.

If you have a usb drive you can download the latest Ubuntu ISO and use balenaetcher to flash yourself a usb Ubuntu install drive. Perform the install with ethernet or skip the online part of the install. Your sound should work at this point, but your Wi-Fi won't. You can then perform the sudo file manager fix for the Wi-Fi.
