[SOLVED - Faulty RAM] J50C-4 Plus , can't boot after ram upgrade

Hi , need your help,

I just bought and setup the preinstalled Windows 10 yesterday. Today , I inserted a 8GB Crucial 2666 DDR4 to it , but failed to boot , any idea ?

No display output via HDMI at all , can't even summon the bios page . The TV doesn't seem to receive any signal...
 
What would happen if you put the original 4GB back after removing the new 8GB?

Did you remove the 4GB? Mixing the RAM is not compatible:

I'm not mixing ram , just inserted one 8GB crucial DDR4.

I can't even see the Bios screen , no video output at all.

How to update Bios btw...
 
I have the same problem.

I have a MINIX NEO J50C-4 Plus, 4G

I looked at the amazon site and got the name of extra ram there and got 8gb and that did not work when i fitted it.

So contacted john scutt to ask what was the correct ram. He gave me a list and I followed his link to a 16gb Corsair Vengeance set. So it is the right DDR4 ram.

Put it in. It did not work. took out the existing 4gb. put the new 16gb in on its own.

It would not boot.

Took it out put the old one back.

It worked.

This is really annoying buying Ram as recommended for a brand new minix and it is not working.

Can i have help please

This is what I was told i.e. that these wer fully compatible and the second one which I clicked on and purchased is a 16gb single one.

So are you saying this is wrong and i need to buy 2 8gb - so I can't get above 16GB?

This is what i was told and the second one is the one i chose.

2 x 8 GB is this CMSX16GX4M2A2400C16 as in the list. (y)
1 x 16 GB is this CMSX16GX4M1A2400C16

It is only upgradeable to 16 GB total. i.e. 2 x 8 GB

Key phrase obviously being each RAM slot supports up to 8GB ;).
 
On the back of the box for the device it says:

Memory
4GB DDR4 (upgradeable to 16GB) I guess this could be misunderstood!
Memory Slot
2 x SODIMM slot, support dual channel


I guess it would be better refelcting the online specifications:

Memory
4GB DDR4
Memory Slot
2 x SODIMM slot, dual channel support [each support up to 8GB]

... and the pair of SODIMM slots support up to 8GB of DDR4 memory each [total of 16GB DDR4 memory]

There were others in the list. But i choose the 16gb one which is the one above, as I have got 4gb already and thought 16 plus 4 = 20

I tried in with the 4gb and on its own and it did not work. Then you told me it was not compatible. So i think it is very clear I was given the wrong information.

Just to give you the background. I used the amazon page to buy one card but it did not work, do I then email minix to ask for the proper ones. I was given a list but could not find anything on google that I felt confident was absolutely the same as those in the list. So I pressed John to give me a link to a specific sellers and items so there would be no mistake, as i did not want to fail with a second purchase.

I was very glad for help, but its a pity it proved to be wrong.

just one of those things I guess. I have sent it back to amazon and am now going to try for a third time to buy something to expand the memory.

It hasn't been pleasant, and don't know why you don't sell them upgraded.

For someone like me its been very fraught.

Apparently 1 x 16GB should work!

This is what I have been told...
16GB DDR4 RAM is the total maximum supported.
So, if one of the slots is empty, the other slot can support 16GB.
Cannot support 8GB + 16GB.

In my case, one 16gb didn't work, when I swopped it for 2 * 8gb it worked.

With the information given :
one 16GB module of DDR4 should work (one slot must be empty)
Maybe the RAM you tested is not compatible or defective.

It didn't work for @kpflude using, allegedly, compatible memory. He has since exchanged for 2 x 8GB. (y)

Personally I don't see why one would opt for a single 16GB module over 2 x 8GB. :unsure:
