Could someone pliz guide me in the right direction, coz i have read alot on this forum. So i kinda wanna be certain before i start.
I had minix X8-h plus, for like 5yrs loved it, mostly for kodi and only had minor issues which i would addons would resolve, a few wks ago it, blue light went off and that was it. Thats when i got on this platform and well done all coz you guys do an amazing job.

Just got neo u9-h 6.1 comes with kodi so easy, loaded some builds & repo's and no streams started showing up. i have tried updating, got a new build nothing. Came back to the forum read and thought..i need to;
-Upgrade Kodi from 17.3 to something newer, thought 18.2 leia coz its stable? should i or leaving kryton is bad move
-Apparently u9-h has an issue with upgrades[or something] the firmware, kodi.. it alters tv specs[or something] therefore you hv to install CE via sd. I don't use a 4k tv so is this necessary and if so, is the dual boot or install to internal the way to go.
-Or probably upgrade kodi to 17.6 refresh the builds and the problem will be resolved, i just got it, i should be in luxury heaven not thinking of inserting this or that for atleast a year.

If Kodi is your primary use then I would highly recommend using CoreELEC, as to how is a personal choice, try first off an SD Card and if you like it then install to eMMC (y)

Kodi upgrade on the U9-H somehow alters your TV's specifications? Where did you read that one?

Ideally you really want to at least upgrade Kodi to 18.9 anyway, (rather than 18.2). If you're going to upgrade to Kodi 18 then get the latest stable release that includes all improvements from an earlier version like 18.2 ;)!!!

17.6 was very good in its own right but it is now very outdated & hardly surprising a lot of your old builds or add-ons are no longer functional as they haven't been supported or updated for quite some time.

Kodi 18.9 runs absolutely fine on the U9-H. Kodi 19 of course has also just been released & is also a valid option but if you'd prefer to remain with a Kodi that's been working absolutely fine for well over a year then upgrade to 18.9 for the time being & see if some things then improve.

CoreELEC, as has been mentioned, is also a solid option but the same would apply there too. Ideally you'd want to install the most recent stable CE release which is now at 9.2.6 & that also includes Kodi 18.9 too anyway.

Builds themselves can also be highly unreliable, contain malware or worse, some are just inherently buggy & unstable, or some are just too heavy for the device & everything just essentially grinds to a halt. You'd be better off simply upgrading Kodi first & then just source the add-ons you want individually yourself. (If you know the names of your preferred add-ons then Google is your friend but builds & add-ons not in the official Kodi repository cannot be discussed on this forum for obvious reasons.)

If you're just running a 1080p TV anyway then try simply updating Kodi to 18.9 with Android first, see what you think, & then go from there with regards to CoreELEC etc. if you feel there would be additional benefit ;).
