Yes I know it comes with the newer S905X2 chipset that can run Android 9.0, but lacks external antenna for WiFi which sucks and costs around the same as the U1 which is stuck at Android 5.0. So this is a tough decision since the U9 is still the flagship, but stuck at Android 7.0 ! ...LoL

Are you actually asking a question or just hitting aimlessly?

It's a question ...where is Minix going with this is the T5 an entry level box at $85usd ? The U9 is still rather expensive at $120usd+, but stuck at older technology !

Let's put this way::)
T5 is a upgrade (in some things...) to previous devices (u9h , etc) because it is a new device , android 9.0 but has android TV, not standard android.
I am enjoying android TV, it has everything that i need :) but is more limited. You have to think about it.

Standard android - Natural upgrade for U9-H is U22-XJ (but not available)

Then the question is will the U22 support Netflix 4K while the T5 can ? ...LoL

You're getting confused between Google certified and Netflix certified, the T5 is Google certified not Netflix certified.

I don't think so, if it is Android TV certified it should be able to play Netflix 4k or else the T5 is an useless upgrade ! If that is the case then Minix should have just stick with a U1 S905X2 CPU instead for the sole purpose of having Android 9.0 and up !

I disagree, stupid move on Netflix's part to be so fickle about on where I can watch 4K for the subscription that I pay for.

It's stupid when most entry level LED TVs have Android TV or Roku TV OS built in that can fully support Netflix 4k as well ! Today you can buy a 50"-65" 4K HDR TV from TCL, Hisense, Skyworth and Sharp etc for under $250usd that can do all that and the T5 at $85usd cannot ...what were they thinking when they came up with the T5 ? ...LoL

The most deceptive players are Netflix, nowhere on the sign up page does it tell you that you will have restricted resolution on non certified devices, there is song and dance about watching on media streamers but no mention of restrictions:
Where can I watch?
Watch anywhere, anytime, on an unlimited number of devices. Sign in with your Netflix account to watch instantly on the web at netflix.com from your personal computer or on any internet-connected device that offers the Netflix app, including smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, streaming media players and game consoles.

My question is aimed Minix, the T5 with its Android TV OS is useless in my professional opinion, they might as well have stuck with an upgraded version of the U1 with a full Android OS instead and I wouldn't have this head shake and face to palm episode ...LoL

We're all entitled to our opinions and I do respect your professional opinion, my humble opinion is that the T5 is so much more than just Netflix.

It still wouldn't be Netflix certified! :rolleyes:

The T5 is far from “ useless ” as you put it ....being Google certified is a huge step in the right direction for MINIX

With more competition coming for Netflix perhaps they might start to loosen the reins a bit on who they certify !;)
