Taken the SSD out of the N42C to put into a J50C and now...

...and now the N42C reports I'm short of storage - all 26GB being used instead of 32GB. I seemed to recall having to go into BIOS to make the upgrade (ie adding the SDD) - but how does one 'downgrade'? It can't be just as simple as a reversal of the same process can it?

Help gratefully received . Please treat me as if I'm an Apple owner and thus know nothing of the bios gubbins.

Thanks,

Thanks,

If you've removed the SSD then yes, just reverse the process, enable the onboard eMMC again & configure the eMMC as the primary boot device.

The system should then boot to the original copy of Win 10 that was pre-installed on the eMMC.

Simples :).

Thanks ArticWolf. -that's reassuring. I've looked for the original FAQ article on how to activate the new SSD (the instructions I need to reverse), but can't find it. Please can you help?

I need to sell the N42C. I'm very pleased with the J50C.

Thanks for that; I don't know why I didn't find it.
The second time I booted the PC without the SSD it loaded much faster than the first go, and then, after another reboot I went into BIOS the eMMC was already enabled - so I didn't need to do anything!

One slight issue is storage. The PC is now almost new - all apps disappeared, BUT I only have 511MB out of "29.1GB" (I know the spec is 32 GB).

I've used Windows to delete old files/caches etc but only got a few MB back. I tried to wipe everything (going into Settings/Recovery) but nothing happened - nothing to delete I suppose.

What am I doing wrong? Any advice very gratefully received.

I suggest you "Reset this PC"

Settings, Update & Security, Recovery

Select Remove everything...

Hi, thanks; I tried "Reset this PC" - and it wouldn't.

I'll look into the Reinstall option (tbh - I didn't think you could do this), or, just sell the unit 'as is'.

Thanks again

OK, so I have usb stick (NTFS) with the various de-ziped files and folders in the PC.

I go into BIOS, scroll to the boot option - but there's no usb stick in the list, (Windows Boot manager;IPO4 Realtek P-, IP6 realticek P and built in EFI are listed)

Help!.

Update: after several tries the usb stick is recognised (SanDisk -not 'Winpe').

Something is happening...I'll update later.

Later.. all now seems well after several attempts...not helped by one of the USB ports not working!

Thanks everyone.

You need to rename the USB stick yourself to "WINPE"!!

I did; anyway it seems to work fine and I have approx another 10GB.

Shame about one apparently defunct USB port. I've deleted the driver and re-booted thus forcing Windows to reload the drivers -but on re-boot it's still the same.

Thanks for all your help.
