Tutorial CoreELEC on the T5

Now your confusing me as you said you had very different.

But I guess that was before you set
Audio decoder -> Audio output device - ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI Multi Ch PCM.
and
Audio passthrough -> Passthrough output device ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI,

am i right ?? :)

Yup, that's exactly it mate :). Changing that setting for the audio output device to independently use multi-chan PCM instead of pure HDMI was critical for AAC to correctly function with CoreELEC.

All works (and souunds) great now.

excellent... we're singing from the same hymn sheet then :)(y)

Note: You do not lose Android, this creates a dual boot for CoreELEC, you can switch between the two if so required.

And what if someone uses ceemmc with option [3] (current used SD or USB device) and installs coreELEC on MMC? How can one return to Android? There's no flashable .img file from Minix for AM Burning Tool. By the way, there are many other working ROMs on our Minix T5, but most of them work better than the original, with more options etc. But there's only one problem: there's no way to return to the original. Shame in Minix support...

They are Full OTA image zip files not Burning images.
Yes, but you can use these files using a usb drive and the update and backup app.

However, if you choose to install Coreelec to internal memory using ceemmc then you should be aware of the consequences..

I do agree however that I dont know why Minix havent supplied a file for the burning tool in over a year....that is bad

Can you advise which custom ROMS for the T5 work better, and how do they work better ?
For instance does HD audio work, does connecting a VPN over ethernet work. ?

If so I would be willing to give them a go trusting that the update and back up app are on the custom ROM and work so could reflash the stock version

If the custom ROMs are better then surely there is no need to return to the original!?!

I think to use the Update zip files you would need to have MINIX Official firmware on the device.

I always like the option to return to original firmware:
Example: custom dd-wrt (you can revert to factory).
Of course dd-wrt is much better than original ?

The definition of "better working ROM" depends on personal preferences and uses, doesn't it?
BUt there's no way to find out if it works better if you don't try it.
Let's say that I prefer the AOSP versions - I don't like Google's restriction with Android TV.
I use the box for IP TV, but it's difficult with the original ROM.
Even in the custom versions of Android TV ROMS, you have more freedom of choice.
But to be more precise: the version of superceleron "USERDEBUG" AOSP is completely functional, but
working with the stock version remotely is a sufficiently simple substitute for one file and a restart.
My personal favorite from all the ROMS is version ugoos' 3.7 version adapted to the TV box HK1 Plus from
XVortex - it offers more elaborate screen settings (color, contrast, saturation etc.), a working AFR,
a built-in server (Samba, FPT), a processor temperature and memory usage monitor according to your preferences
and, of course, a fully viable Google Play etc.
The WiFi and Bluetooth work, but the LAN doesn't, the stock remote works 100% after said file substition and the
light diode is reversed - it's red during power-on and blue otherwise. But I could live with that, personally,
if you take into account the advantages of the ROM. By the way, the boys at 4PDA managed to make an
Android TV ROM fully certified by Google. I tried it - it's virtually the same as the original Minix Rom,
with the same limitations and so on.

If the custom ROMs are better then surely there is no need to return to the original!?!

But who says that I need to return to the original? I just think it should exist as an option for someone, who does.

My Google skills clearly suck as I cannot find the ROM you are mentioning on 4pda, could you PM me the link please.

P.S the Minix T5 is Google certified so this you get with the stock ROM anyway.

For anyone using Corelec on the T5 I would suggest that you do not update to v 9.2.6 if you have a HDR TV.

Unless I am missing a setting somewhere when i updated to 9.2.6 I lost HDR playback capability.
Reverting back to 9.2.5 brought it back.

Reverting back to 9.2.5 brought it back.

9.2.6 had a somewhat rare and rather annoying bug with HDMI when using certain combinations of device + TV, that effected the devices ability to get the correct EDID info from the TV. This has been fixed and the fix will be in the upcoming 9.2.7 release, that I'm currently working on getting ready for release.

It would be nice to verify if your issue is caused by the same bug or not. So that if it is not then the CoreELEC developers can look at verifying the bug and then fixing it before the 9.2.7 release.

@pusb87 Can you give the CoreELEC nightly build found here https://relkai.coreelec.org/ a try and let me know if you still have a problem with this build.

OK have done so and pleased to say HDR is back :)

What would be super nice is if you could get the OSD controls and subtitles etc not to be in "HDR"

That's good to hear.

As for the OSD and subtitles. I assume that you find them to be to bright when HDR is on?

It's possible to change the colour of the subtitles to a less bright colour, look in
Settings>Player>Language>Subtitles

I know a few users have found grey to be a better colour for subtitles with HDR content.

OK, thanks for that tip :)

@cdu13a Can you confirm that the fix which solved my HDR issue is in 9.2.7 before i update ?

Yes, The fix is in the 9.2.7 release.

The nightly builds are a daily test of the stuff that is going into the next stable. So in general any new stable release will include everything that was in the nightly builds for that branch up until the point that the stable build was made.
