is it possible to update firmware support 4k resolution to play 4K youtube?

What if I am not rooted? How do I play 4k youtube video?

Or you can try this:

1 - Quit the Youtube playstore apps, none goes over 1080p.
2 - Open youtube.com in your web browser. You will be redirect to an "m.youtube.com" which is the mobile version.
3 - If you are using Google Chrome, you will have 3 vertical small dots on the rightside of the search bar, click there for options and mark the square to have the site for computer version. Other mainstream web browsers have a similar option it the definitions, should Chrome not be your thing, look for it there.
4 - Choose your 4k video, select the quality in the video definitions. Tada!

You will need a powerful wifi connection, or ethernet for smooth streaming 4k viewing.

P.S. This is the procedure that I consider to be the easiest to watch 4k Youtube in a non rooted Minix, however my advice is to watch the Youtube 4k in the 4k Tv browser which, from my experience, react better to poor streaming conditions.

Edit 1
The Youtube Android TV app that is preinstalled in the U1 is an older version and it is only 1080p capable also. There are updates to this app (not in the Google Playstore, and I can't remember or recommend the site) which are 4k capable, but last time I checked the newer versions of the app choose the best possible quality automatically, and since you can't select the viewing definition yourself, it might happen that, under less than perfect circumstances, the app will select a lower res to play the 4k content unnoticeably.

Edit 2
@Marty's app recommendation (bellow) is actualy very good. You need to install the 'Crosswalk Project Runtime' from the Playstore for it to work but it is worth it. It chooses the ideal res but you can manually force it into the resolution you want.
