I unfortunately brought a U22, to replace a bootlooping U1, but I am unhappy with it as it has too many problems. Is there a way to convert a U22 to a U1?

I bought the u22xj a couple months back and it's been working perfectly for me what are the issues you are having

Personally I found that most of the issues are resolved by using coreelec on a fast microsd card. You lose the flexibility of android, but you gain the full set of capabilities the chipset actually offers, in video and audio.

Thank you for your reply. One of the problems is here: https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/u22-xj-seagate-expansion-drive.4212/

The other main problem is with the mouse scrolling, which will not work on some apps, especially JetAudio. This problem is all over this board without any answers. It makes some applications unusable, although worked perfectly on my old U1.

Thank you. I'm not sure I'm ready for such a large change, but you have made me wonder if it would be a method to fix my bootlooping U1, I shall give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

When it comes the mouse issue you could try a different brand of air mouse you can buy a good one for $15/ $20 from Amazon

I thought that might be the case, worth asking though, you never know.

Yes indeed. No worries ;).

CoreELEC isn't really a large change!! All it really does is provide a direct alternative of a fully featured U22 Android system into a super lite dedicated multimedia system for Kodi alone.

(Unfortunately, some of the known issues with the existing Android firmware directly affects my HT hardware too & also restricts my use of a U22. However, I can have a U22 running CoreELEC & Kodi from a Micro SD as a dedicated media system which I use to playback my locally stored multimedia. In that role at least it does an absolutely outstanding job, & the audio & visual quality in conjunction with my home theater hardware is exceptional.)

The pros & cons of CoreELEC are fairly self evident, but in case you're still uncertain?.....

Pros.

CoreELEC as an OS is configured to run Kodi alone & nothing else but Kodi (plus add-ons) can be installed. Obviously, that leaves all system resources free to process your media & very little can actually go wrong indeed. (Provided of course that the existing CoreELEC version is completely stable & bug free of itself, & that the end user doesn't install any suspect/dodgy Kodi add-ons that are otherwise known to cause various problems as well.) CoreELEC runs indefinitely & I only ever need a reboot following a system update.

You can run a dual boot configuration with exceptional ease & it literally takes seconds to switch back & forth between the Android or CoreELEC installation as required. Android & your apps remain exactly as they are on the eMMC & nothing needs to be changed. (CoreELEC runs independently from an external media source such as a Micro SD.)

Cons.

CoreELEC as an OS is configured to run Kodi alone & nothing else but Kodi can be installed, lol ;). You ultimately lose the functionally of a fully featured OS that you've been used to with your U1 & Android, or that you may have also originally planned for your new U22 as well.

If you're keeping the U22 regardless, & you do actually use Kodi a lot anyway, it's really a no-brainer!! Install CoreELEC :). If you use multimedia software other than Kodi too, (such as MX, VLC, PLEX, whatever ;) ), then obviously consider switching to Kodi instead, & on your other devices too & see how you get on. (It may seem overwhelming at first but set to the lower "beginner" settings it's actually very simple. It only needs to get as complicated as you need it to be, even then there's a massive wiki resource & user forums also dedicated to anything Kodi if anyone does need help :). As long as you're not discussing known banned add-ons, obviously you can also ask some questions here too if you wish.

Entirely up to you either way but it'd definitely be worth 10 - 15 minutes research to see if the alternative could provide you with some additional options :).

Try this :
connect the seagate to u22xj and power on the minix ... download Kodi from the store and try to open files from the seagate , vidéo,audio, pictures...for Know if it works ore not ...
I use external seagate disc with 6to and it works perfect ,but mine have a power plug...

Concerning your audio app you Can try a différent one or open your music with Kodi .. or you Can try :
For all radio stations around the World and hear my music i use Audials -play /radio/podcast app ,this work just perfect and you Can also record radio...the app is in fullscreen .. avaible on store ...home page from Audials for take a look :
https://audials.com/fr/apps/audials-play-android

Concerning the mouse problème this problème IS not very clear because it seems to work perfectly with Android TV os ,so for the moment ...?? A good alternative is Logitech keyboard k400 for example how have a " mouse touchpad " ....in daily use its better as the remote

I do have a A2 but find it bulky and it eats batteries very quickly. Must confess that I haven't really tried it with JetAudio. Just tested it, it suffers with the same problem and is very inconvenient as there no scroll. If I click on the screen and move it down it will go down a little way and then jumps straight back up to the top, the same as using a mouse. So not really suitable. My plain simple mouse works fine on the U1 and scrolls perfectly, I guess there is something in the software in the U22 that prevents it working properly. I assume that only a software update would cure it. I have several mouse's (at least 4) and have tried them all to no avail. Guess I'll have to get used to VLC although it's not a patch on JetAudio. Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated.

Thank you very much for all of that. You have persuaded me to give it a try, although when I've messed around with Kodi in the past I've not really got on with it too well. However, that was quite a few years ago, so definitely worth another play. Also I'm intrigued by CorELEC and wether it would load on my U1. Could you please tell me how it loads? Do you get a choice when the box starts, or do you have to access it via Android?

I shall look into it and let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Thank you very much. I have just downloaded and tried Kodi, it scrolls a treat, in fact better than most as it self scrolls when the pointer is moved to the top or bottom. I can see my library of audio comedy but when I click on one it's empty, can't find a setting as yet, I'll keep working on it.

I have also just had another look at Audials which I had on my system but don't really use as it doesn't do anything that other apps offer, it's great for radio and podcasts, but I can't get it to order my library in the files they are in, it's just a long list of tracks, so not really suitable for me with my vast amount of audio comedy in folders. Good suggestion all the same.

I think Kodi is the way to go, but I'm not sure it offers more than VLC, I shall keep working on it and let you know how I get on. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

One of the best features of Kodi is that you can essentially organise your collection locally, but then scrape information or images etc. from established online databases. (IMDB, TVDB, MusicBrainz, etc.)

Kodi wiki for organisation or naming conventions for TV shows & movies here...

https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows

https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies

Music here...

https://kodi.wiki/view/Music_tagging

Ultimately, just web search "Kodi blah" & invariably you'll get a direct wiki, online written guides, Youtube tutorials or a user forum discussion that will answer most questions.

Kodi is a feature rich all in one solution & it can seem a little daunting at first, but there's not actually that much to learn with regards to its basic functions & multimedia playback.

Additionally, if you use a NAS or a system as a centralised storage device at home, you can also configure Kodi across multiple different devices in different rooms to utilise a single central database via MySQL. It saves a lot of time managing a separate library on each individual device & it also includes features such as the ability to stop a song/movie in one room & immediately pick up watching it in another room on another device. (Again, sounds complicated but once oast the initial setup, management is actually quite simple.). Alternatively, many users use the Trakt service which essentially does the same thing, albeit all your personal info, file info, & viewing/listening habits are all online to some degree regardless of privacy levels used. Obviously that's a personal choice that's down to each individual :).

Its so simple just to set up a Trakt account with no personal info at all that relates directly back to you.:D

Unfortunately the U1 is no longer listed on their download page. I have tried the one for U22 but it didn't load on my U1. Any idea which one is now suitable for the U1?
