i currently own a U9-H and thinking of buying another Media Hub so i can give my older one for my parents to use...

is there a significant difference between U22-XJ and U9-H? and im not familiar with the latest MINIX releases, is there a newer model for their media hub, or is U22-XJ the latest as of the moment?

If you need an android device, the U22 is the latest from minix. What is your main use for the device? Are you considering android or android tv as well? Cheers!

difficult one that.

Whilst the u22 is newer and more powerful the firmware is not mature and has some outstanding bugs which minix have failed to fix over the last year.
The u9h however is a great device and pretty much rock solid with good firmware.

You might want to look at the T5 for your parents (AndroidTV OS) as generally it doesnt require a mouse and is perhaps more suited for hooking up to a TV and keeping the u9h for yourself and wait until MInix sort out the U22 :rolleyes:

yeah, i love my UH-9 actually, i even gifted a couple to to my siblings... i guess i should just wait for minix to fix those bugs, another option for me was to buy another U9-H, but i wanted to try something new lol...

anyways, thanks for the advice, i will just wait and see what happens to the U22

my main use for the device is as a player for my collection of movies. my parents use a samsung smart tv, but problem is some of the movies dont have audio when played on their tv or some of them cant recognize the subtitles...

ive never had a problem with kodi on my U9-H, so i was thinking on giving it to my parents to use and just buy another one... other than using kodi, i rarely use my U9-H for anything else

Kodi on my U9-H worked so well I bought a spare. Only problem is if you open more the half a dozen apps it locks up. To fix I leave it in developer mode to kill back ground apps. Still it seems to get loaded down some times.

The U22 is twice as fast and does not lock up.

I will keep my main U9-H as a back up but will soon sell my unused spare on e-bay.

While the U22 isn't exactly on the same page, the U9-H is certainly very well known for being a highly stable device with its later FW versions.

If you've got a U9-H that's misbehaving in such a manner, I'd look at the root cause rather than putting up with the problem or reacting to the symptoms as you presently are TBH!!

How radical do you want to get up front or are you happy to systematically troubleshoot the problem? If you're not bothered about wiping & the time spent reconfiguring, then just do a factory reset or re-flash the FW manually & hopefully your problems will be solved. Or, troubleshoot by disabling or uninstalling apps or system processes one at a time, try clearing caches or data one app at a time, etc., etc.

Whichever option will potentially be the quickest & easiest for you :).

See if the problem persists after actually addressing it rather than just carrying on with it ;).

Stable yes but slow.

Root cause is slow memory reading and memory hog apps.

If I access many video apps like news broadcasts , Kodi and switch with out shutting down the old apps the U9 gets slow and eventually may freeze. Monitored the usage... the CPU is not 100% but some of the cores get stuck at 100% memory access.

I have 2 U9's with same problem. Wiped them. Tried 7.1 . Cleared cache. More SD memory . Trimmed down and remove SD memory . All with no success.
(If I remove all the apps but Kodi it is ok... but then I might as well just use a Android TV OS box)
Developer mode to kill apps helps if I forget to do it manually.

Only real solution is U22. Thanks for it.

(I'm keeping one of my U9 as spare the other is on EBAY now for $70)

Hello.. i suggest you can consider MINIX NEO T5 if are giving it to your parents for home entertainment. NEO T5 is a pure Android TV Box with Google certified .

i will look it up. thanks for the suggestion
@bong972

I suggested you look at the T5 for your parents a while ago and assumed you would look through the T5 threads to see feedback.

Be aware that the T5 has some fundamental firmware issues that Minix have not resolved around HD audio, AFR and VPN's with ethernet.
If you are simply hooking up the T5 direct to the TV these may not be a major concern for you as the T5 otherwise performs very well

The U22 is not perfect but much better than the U9.

In my previous post I mentioned that I could bring my U9 to a crawl with a few video hog apps running in the back ground where the U22 seemed relentless. I managed to slow down the U22 (jumpy videos) with about 20 back ground apps running. One click on an app killer and everything is fine again.

My U9H works great and neve has an issue. My U22 however doesn't give me the performance that I expected. I'm not the video/audio geek that most are and I don't care about Dolby pass thru or 8K. My eyesight isn't the best and to tell you the truth I can't see the difference between 1080 or 4K. Maybe I will when I upgrade my TV soon. I just want to be able to use my airmouse and not have to disconnect the HDMI cable to shut it off because the unit doesn't work well with my LG. It is frustrating and an expensive boo boo.... When I do use the U22 I really don't see an increase in speed or anything that supposedly makes it better than my U9H, maybe I'm missing something. I guess I over bought for what I was wanting. I only use it for streaming from APKs and Kodi

Dumb question here. Never thought about it but can you leave either the U9 or U22 on 24/7 like I do with my computer? If so, do I have to reboot it once in awhile just so updates take place? Just never thought about it before. Thanks

Yes, you could essentially leave them running indefinitely if you so wish, although, an occasional reboot is often more helpful than a hindrance.

They'll be fine left running or in standby :).

Landed here while searching if my current old trusty U9-H knows or not Dolby Vision (the mkv DoV files play with a wrong green tint), and it seems it doesn't know.
Found out of this "new" flagship from Minix and start wondering if should I upgrade the U9-H.
My only use case for U9-H/U22 would be Kodi with movies/series from my NAS.
I want 4K, Atmos, HDR, DoV to work. That's pretty much all :). Ah, and off-course if U22 is faster than U9-H (which I understand it is) then I'm okay with this also .
So would U22 tick all the checkboxes for the above ? With OR without original firmware (as I saw written somewhere that U22 doesn't pass Atmos with original firmware, but does the U9-H does it ?), I don't mind to do some tweaking...
