U9-H-CE FW001 Android 7.1.2 20191120 [Community Edition Nougat Firmware]

Just seeing this post now. Need to update my Firmware because Disney+ no longer works on Android 6. I use the audio jack out as well as HDMI for sound. Any reports of the audio jack not working? Thanks

With 7.1.2 disney doesn't work for me. I do not have sound. Does anyone have this working? Maybe an apk to share?

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I won't update to 7.1.2.

I'm on 6.0.1 and was running Disney+ v2.2 (using Split APK Installer). I notice that after a while (and many app updates), Disney seems to break the functionality of the older versions. So, the usual work-around for me is:

1) Download the split APK file. I used to use the one at apk.support but they might have received a take-down notice as the Disney apk isn't there anymore. So, using Google, I found other versions at gizdev.com . I used the "Android Phone" version. It'll take you to a site to download the APK. Choose "bundle" and not the apk itself. I chose v2.5 (although current version is 2.9.1).

2) Download SAI (Split APK Installer). Probably not on Play Store so you'll have to manually install it.

3) Run SAI and go to your download folder for the Disney APK Bundle. Install.

v2.5 seems to work, although I haven't had time to login yet.

NOTE: I was hoping 7.1.2 would just "work" but it seems Disney doesn't like to support Minix boxes.

My past experience has been that Disney is problematic on MINIX boxes for sure.

Hello- (July 2022)

I'm downloading the "Community Edition ROM for NEO U9-H - Android 7.1.2 Nougat" ROM now as I type this.
I just picked up a new U9H. I have a much older U1 and love it, but need another media box for another room, so... $

The old U1 (Android 5.1.1 Build U1 FW013 20170629)
- DOES NOT:
- - Play Riptide GP, although I believe it used to years ago. All I see now is a black screen, no errors ;-(
- - Play Livebarn Video. App cannot be installed and the Web page video shows black screens.
- - Does not play certain other web videos. Do not know the type, but it seems random.
- DOES:
- - Play Youtube and Kodi Addon (crew) videos like a charm !
- - With attached USB video storage and VLC, it plays pretty much all videos like a charm! (up to 1920x1080 which is all I have here)

The new U9-H (Android 6.0.1 Build U9-H FW008 20180209) so far is sadly a big step back.
- DOES NOT:
- - VLC video playback is "iffy" on many levels. Audio failures/skipping, black video, odd Bluetooth issues...
- - STILL does not play LiveBarn videos or the Riptide Game (grrrr)
- DOES:
- - Give me lots of "security grief" when accessing usb drives etc...
- - Show an odd "numeric" volume label for my attached USB drive (in some apps only - VERY odd)
- - Just cause general annoyances that do not exist on my MUCH older U1.

That said, I'll flash shortly for the CE 7.1 and give her a try. Will post updates here.
Mainly, I'm hoping for VLC to work only equally as well as it does on my U1, which is essentially flawless.
If I get Livebarn video or RipTide to display - I'll feel like it's a success.

OK-

Install went fine although initial OTG setup is always mildly annoying.

So far, things are going very well - I believe this mod will make my U9 purchase worthwhile.

Working now:
- VLC operates properly now for all my media type (up to 1080 my max)
- Kodi local USB movies and online video and TV with The Crew addon
- Youtube
- Plex (nice little app for tv/movies)
- Riptide GP. Amazing... this FINALLY works again.
- Livebarn. Partially works, but it says in the app itself that it's in test. Prior black screen only so improved.
- General web videos FINALLY working. Many web videos just show a "black screen" on the U1 or factory U9.

* Not working:
- Pluto TV is stuck in portrait mode, but does run (not important enuf for another orientation app)
- VLC has a minor glitch compared to my U1 version. Certain navigation movements cause a brief flash of light. But fixed after tinkering in VLC advanced settings

So overall, this FW has helped me actually "use" my new U9 - thanks much guys for the work !!!
In summary, the old U1 is very solid and works fine excepting certain web video formats that just show "black". But it works great for Kodi (online vid and series) and VLC with local usb movies.

The U9 was certainly a disappointment initially, but this CE firmware gets it back to "useful".
Great job and thanks for the efforts !

Hello, im trying to upgrade a Neo U9-H with Android 7.1.2, i downloaded the tool + firmware, installed and connected all correctly but the device is not detected, i tried different PC with Windows 10 or 11 no way is detecting the android device inside the tool, but Windows is detecting the harddrive of the Neo U9-H so i think its correctly connected with the OTG USB cable, what im missing?

If windows is detecting the box then it is in drive mode, you need to follow the recovery method to get it into flash mode (step #5 in the instructions from the first post of this thread).
