U9-H-CE FW001 Android 7.1.2 20191120 [Community Edition Nougat Firmware]

Which brings be to my question, what kind of problems can occur? I haven't cleared cache, it seems to be working fine so far. What am I needing to avoid?
The cache stores data that helps give the user a better experience by not having to wait for the data of an app or web page to load from the beginning every time you want to use said app or web page. The same applies for system apps which is where you could run into problems. for example if the cache holds the data for a previous version of framework-res.apk then you could experience a black or frozen screen and the likes. Clearing the cache effectively starts the system off fresh and stores only your data in the cache from there on. Advisable but not obligatory.

Hi all,

Perhaps I missed it in the 26 pages I searched through. But the video, instructions are all for Windows. What if you don't have Windows?
My Kodi keeps crashing and Netflix doesn't want to run any more, so I'd prefer a newer firmware as the auto-updater tells me I'm up-to-date...
Oh, I really don't have a Windows machine...

Erwin..

Before you start flashing new versions of firmware entirely which could potentially come with new problems as well, have you at least tried clearing the app cache for the 2 problematic apps you've mentioned and/or the system cache? (Apps can sometimes degrade in performance over time, especially apps that heavily rely on caching data such as Kodi etc. If you're also running unofficial add-ons or you're using builds (which cannot be discussed here), then they too could cause any number of problems, builds especially. So avoid anything unofficial & try a fresh install or a clean Kodi.)

Have you also tried clearing the app data if clearing caches fails too? Otherwise, have you tried factory resetting your existing firmware for a completely fresh start rather than flashing a completely different ROM which may not be necessary at all?

Have you also checked your existing version of Netflix? (Details here of current working version 6.26.1...... https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/problems-with-netflix.2290/ and https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/minix-u9-h-netflix-hd.2803/#post-23514

If you're referring to the flashing procedure to actually install the CE ROM, then a Windows PC is essential there too.

Although, you could also try the burn card maker method which is known to function successfully with a U9-H too. (Just follow these instructions but obviously download the firmware image for the U9-H..... https://theminixforum.com/index.php...pop-firmware-update-with-burn-card-maker.234/ :).)

Wow, fantastic! Thank you for your quick and detailed answer!
Yes, I've cleared all the caches and factory reset the system. But I could try that again, and look at new versions of Netflix, YouTube (also problematic, only sees half the channels I'm subscribed to)...

As I don't have Windows, and obviously don't really want to buy a machine running Windows either (I just really don't like Windows 10 after 14 crashes on 3 laptops)... But let me do a factory reset again and try the correct versions of Kodi (although I did get them from they Play Store)..

Cheers, Erwin.

You're welcome :).

If you're absolutely desperate to try the CE ROM? If a friend will let you access their Win PC then it only takes 10 minutes to install the software & actually flash the image if that helps. Just uninstall the USB burning tool software again once done.

14 crashes with 3 laptops? Crashes happen, especially with poorly maintained systems. Are you talking about utterly catastrophic corruption & system failures with 3 separate devices, or just that they were prone to crashing/lock ups/BSOD from time to time & you were simply unaware of how to remedy the problems?

Ultimately, however, we're meandering away from the original topic there so if you want to discuss this Win PC issue further, please create a new thread.

This is amazing. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it available. It works flawlessly except when I shut down to hold the power button down (in order to wipe cache) I am always getting a green screen and nothing further happens. I think have to unplug and use the power button on the remote that brings me to the Metro launcher screen. Any ideas what's up with the green screen?

Hi all,

Maybe I missed it but I searched and browsed through all 26 pages but I can't find how to set up IP address for ethernet in this new ROM version?

Thank you.

Thnx, somehow I missed it :). Ok I've created DHCP reservation on my router.
if by chance the U9-H doesn't keep the ip you assigned (static lease) on the router do the following:
-restart all devices you have: routers, switches, U9-H
-if it still doesn't work, turn off and on again (after a few seconds) the same devices

I have no issue with IP but ethernet just stops working after some time when device is in standby. I need to either unplug cable and plug it back in or reboot device. It is connected with same cable in same place as it was with stock rom.

Hard reset and connect to pc and flash, I had an issue with my cable and kept crashing after few Percent new cable off eBay and went from bricked Minix box to working box. I also disabled anti virus and switched off internet during update.

That actually worked, thank you! I wonder what the difference was to my first tries half a year ago. Maybe with the soft-bricked box (from the SD card upgrade attempt) it now worked. Or it is because last time I always turned on the box while holding the power button pressed. This time I first connected the USB cable, then connected the power and only a little later started pressing the power button. While I was pressing it for a few seconds, the box appeared in the flashing tool.

Would this firmware U9-H-CE FW001 Android 7.1.2 20191120 be compatible with my U9-H-CE FW008 original firmware.

It is independent of what you have and it will flash the same as other firmware's giving you the new system, you can always go back if it does not suit your needs. There are post regarding this and it does not suit all who have tried, but give it a go and form your own opinion.

Thankyou @Villa
Yes, have tried that, makes no difference - when cycling through and come back to the Minix box input (this is the only device connected) it still just shows completely black screen, with nothing from Remote that has any effect...
I am also facing this issue and I had the same with NEO-x8h. I believe this is a feature from the designer not a bug :D
It is also ocsasional error with U9-H, but on the x8 it was almost everytime. I have changed HDMI cable, tried every possible settings and nothing helped.

I installed this. Definitely gave my Minix a bit more life. Just one issue, when I'm toggling some apps, the screen will blackout for a second before returning. Anyone experienced this?
I have the same issue, I will try anohter HDMI and see if it helps
