U9-H SUDDENLY NOT DETECTING HARD DRIVE

I've been using my MINIX U9-H for over a year, including a couple of 5TB Seagate external drives without any problems until a couple of days ago when my MINUX U9-H stopped detecting one of my drives (the other one is still detected though, same brand same model )...

i tried the undetected drive on my laptop and I can still open up the files and watch movies from there. I used windows to scan the drive for errors but found no errors...

Any help would be appreciated

Have you done a firmware update recently?

Are you connecting each drive into the Minix directly, or using a USB hub?

I connect all my hard drives into a powered USB hub and the USB hub is connected to the Minix. I assume your 5TB drives are powered, in which case a passive (non powered) hub should be fine.

I was originally using 2 x identical 8 TB Seagate Backup Plus external drives with a U9-H & both (along with an 8 TB WD My Book) were directly connected without a hub etc.

I had this problem the other way around right from the start. (I had quick formatted both drives using Windows (NTFS) & renamed them both differently.) When connected the U9-H still only saw one drive. I typically use the normal/long format option in Windows for any new HDD's before use anyway but in this instance I had just used quick format for both. As soon as I long formatted one of the drives, both then became visible & available on the U9-H.

It's odd that yours seemed to work fine initially but something has since changed, but when you say the U9-H has stopped detecting the drive is this from a single app, multiple apps or???

Otherwise.....

.... should do the trick if you don't want to format again ;)!!

I'm actually planning to buy a powered USB HUB... for the past year though I'm plugging the hard drive directly to my MINIX... (one at a time, cause I noticed problems when I connected both at the same time)

Like I said in my other post I am planning on buying a USB POWERED HUB... but for the past year or two I've been plugging my 2 hard drives directly into my MINIX... (I plug them alternately cause I can't seem to play anything when both are plugged in)...

When I clicked on the updates, it says I have the latest updates... so no idea I fits the culprit...

The MINIX itself doesn't detect the drive... I've tried the drive on my laptop and even tried plugging it directly to my SAMSUNG SMART TV and it works perfectly... I guess I should try formatiting the hard drive to see if it works... I just have to look for for temp drive to transfer my files...

I'm just pissed that it suddenly stopped working after a year of use...

Hi.
I think the problem is:
You connect one/two hard disk(s) and then disconnect again from the U9-H usb.

If you do the same procedure in another device (mini pc for example) the same issue that you have can happen.

I advice you:
Buy a NAS and use the present hard drives that you have.
Then you can connect the NAS to a router.

With a dedicated NAS you have many advantages including acess to both hard disks (if you have more you can acess them) and avoid all the issues you have now.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network-attached_storage

If you decided to buy a NAS read first because there are many configurations you can do including how your hdds can be formated/configured, NAS from one to N bays, etc

You still haven't answered which app or apps have suddenly stopped seeing the HDD's on your U9-H ;)??

oh, i just noticed this today. i only use my minix to watch movies, so KODI is the only app i use on it...

and if anyone can answer another question for me... i want to buy an external powered USB HUB for use on my UH-9 - sadly its not windows-based... i was wondering if any powered hub will do or do i have to look for one which is specifically for media players...

i went to a nearby electronics store earlier and found a few hubs, but all of them said WINDOWS-compatible... so i didnt know if it would work on my minix

Yes any powered USB hub should work just fine.
