MINIX - Martin

Sometime when people get an NEO U9-H and have a serial number such as 0123456789abcdef.

In this situation, please download the following tool to update the serial number.
https://files.theminixforum.com/shared/tools/Update_Serial_Number_for_U9-H.zip
There are video and text instructions inside the downloaded file.

The following are the instructions:

1. Extract the downloaded file to a folder in your Windows-based PC (Windows 7 or above).

2. Install the updating tool by double-clicking USB_Burning_Tool_v2.1.2.exe, allow the installation of the driver.
Run this tool after installation.

3. Proceed to the folder that installs the updating tool, and copy usid.ini to the license folder. (If the license folder does not exist, create it).

4. Attach the power adapter to the NEO U9-H, and connect the U9-H to the Windows-based PC with the micro USB cable that comes with the box.

5. Press the 'Recovery' button in the hole (at the bottom of the NEO U9-H) with a paper clip, and press the power button at the same time for 3-4 seconds, until the USB burning tool recognizes the NEO U9-H.

5. Go to ‘File’ > ‘Import image’, and load the usid.img from the folder.

6. Please check the Reset after success and usid options, see it in the attached picture——Need-to-check options.png

7. Click Start to start updating the serial number.

8. Unplug the Micro USB cable between the PC and U9-H, click "Stop", exit the too and unplug the U9-H power adapter.

9. Then re-plug in the power adapter and press power button to start the NEO U9-H.

Why should i update My serial number? Which is the advantage?
No, you don't have to update your serial number if it is correct.
Very few people's devices got the wrong serial number like this: 0123456789abcdef.
It is obviously not the correct serial number, if someone encounters this situation, he/she will need to update it, so I wrote this thread.

Noted, but what would be the advantage of updating this instead of leaving the wrong serial number as is? (0123456789abcdef)

If all other apps (netflix, youtube, etc.) can still work with the wrong serial number in the box, I would assume it is just a cosmetic fix.

Thank you for the guide by the way. :)

Hi Martin,

I've repeatedly tried this routine with no luck unfortunately.

1. Where do you create the "license" directory if it isn't present? Or, where would it be by default please? (You don't make that clear.) (I.e. would it be in "C:/Program Files x86/Amlogic/USBBurningTool/license" by default? Or, should I create the "license" directory within the USB Burning Tool's executable parent directory please?

I've tried using the default USID.IMG & USID.INI files, included with the above download but I get this error every time I try.

(I just flashed the connected device that the license update won't work on, so I know it's correctly communicating with the PC & the USB Burning Tool is otherwise working correctly.)

2. My test U9-H automatically connects to the V2.12 USB Burning Tool with no need to press the recovery button or to hold down the main power button for 6+ seconds. (Previous versions of the USB Burning Tool required holding down the main power button for 6+ seconds to connect.). For that matter, my test U9-H doesn't have a recovery button!! If I attempt to slide a paper clip inside it just keeps going & going lol. (My test X39 for example, the recovery button is literally just inside the reset hole.). There doesn't seem to be one on my test U9-H!!!

3. I have followed all other instructions to the letter.

Any additional info please. Thanks :).
