u9 & Netflix

Hi guy,

I am a very satisfied user of my minix U9,
I found only one flaw: it is not possible to install netflix hd. on the net I only found the 720p version .. how come you did not get the certification? will it be possible to install netflix hd in the future?

I think the minix tv boxes are the best ever ...

I have a small personal collection
.... ( x7... x8-h.... x8-h plus... U9!!!!!)

I believe, if you flash the ATV (Android TV rom by Kondor, posted in these forums) the google play store HD version is available to you. If you roll back to the original rom you lose it :(

If memory serves it's essentially due to licensing restrictions or policy from Netflix themselves rather than there being a problem with Minix. I also seem to recall there being specific instructions on the original forum for installation of a working Netflix .apk that would at least get you FHD(???). (Hopefully the Minix team or A. N. Other will confirm things &/or correct me but if it helps you look about in the meantime ;))...

...The U9-H has the required DRM's in place & it certainly has the specs to stream any FHD/UHD (& HDR) content that Netflix currently offers. Netflix just won't give many of the smaller manufacturers a chance, even if they're a quality brand like Minix. They only begin to consider licensing a product if the number of units being manufactured meets their required minimums. (Ultimately their main interest is in devices from the usual big brand names that have huge production runs into millions of units; that vs a few 100,000 units from a smaller brand name). Mix in the additional variables of how any given device is specifically classified too & it all becomes a bit of a crapshoot. Unfortunately, despite its blatantly obvious intended role as an Android HTPC/TV box the U9-H is still essentially classified as a phone/tablet. It's running a (well) modified version of Android rather than the Android TV OS. IMHO, giants like Netflix can easily afford to be selective with their licensing decisions/policies, & it has the obvious kickbacks too. This ongoing cat & mouse game of withholding licensing where there may actually be sufficient demand also allows them to potentially steer consumers back towards the more expensive devices & brand names precisely because they're licensed. Whatever the case, as things currently stand it's a win, win for Netflix!!

Minix products definitely rock & you have a nice wee collection there :). I'm extremely happy with my Minix gear. The U9-H in particular is a superb HTPC for starters :). (My TV itself is actually fully capable of streaming 4K content from Netflix/Prime Video but its Firefox OS is just bloody awful lol, it's incredibly poor & restricted, (& essentially dead). A Neo U9-H was the perfect solution to the problems & limitations of the TV's native OS without breaking the bank :).)

I'm certainly looking forward to future products from Minix :).

Well said !

Can someone else confirm this (who's using the ATV from Kondor), as I would flash mines but I don't want to go through all the hurdles/lose-all-my-customizations to only find out it's not

so is there any way for netflix to play 1080, - 4k, 5.1 surround on U9? Maybe android tv os or kodi add on or any other way? I feel so stupid that i bought this box mostly for netflix and kodi(which sometimes crash on a heavy build).

Could you read the previous posts. Until an admin/moderator/“hacker”/etc. says they’ve discovered something, I believe you’re outta luck in regards to a HD Netflix app.

That said, kodi18 seems to have a way to watch Netflix at higher resolutions. You’re just gonna have to dig through the forum to find it ;p

It's not possible to play Full 1080p HD or 4K UHD Netflix on any devices that aren't Netflix certified.
Google/Netflix do not certify boxes running Android OS. There is no workaround.

Very easy :eek::
You need to have the netflix app installed to check on About your ESN code!
Install this Add-on
https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.video.netflix

Then go to the Android/../kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.netflix/settings.xml
edit and replace the line
<setting id="esn">NFANDROID1-PRV-T-MINIXNEO-U9-H-7011-0B27EE.....................</setting>
with your complete code
and voila

Sorry to butt in.

I don't have a U9, but I do have a T5, and IMHO the Minix Media Hubs are the best money can buy! Even better than the formerly great, on its way down, Nvidia Shield.

That being said, yes, you don't have 4K *NetFlaccid. Maybe with some fiddling, you can get 1080P and for sure 720P is attainable. But why beat your head against the wall with a NetFlaccid obsession?

NetFlaccid is on the decline, they reached their apogee several months ago and their business model is unsustainable, plus the new competitors are starting to eat their lunch. Almost every company that experiences a meteoric rise to success is also doomed to a rapid downfall down the other side.

I have never subscribed to NetFlaccid because even in the early days you could detect the rising Hubris and Arrogance: geoblocking, cat and mouse games with VPN users and now clamping down on connection sharing. The last one smells of desperation. Like the last days of Rome.

You don't need NetFlaccid. There are so many great cord-cutting options out there. If you have a Minix device then you have already shown that you can think outside the box.. (pun intended:)) If you guys are here, you have the technical smarts and are open to a little free-thinking. Just put them to good use to get virtually any show ever produced since the dawn of entertainment for a pittance! Break free of the NetFlaccid addiction in which they choose what you watch and really enjoy the Minix boxes. Using a Minix box to watch NetFlaccid is like buying a Ferrari and delivering pizza with it. Yes, you can do it, but should you?

Vote against Netflaccid with your wallet and when you do cancel.... you will feel liberated and more creative in taking control of your entertainment and not mindlessly leaving it in the hands of some Mega Corporation's AI. Yes, it's somewhat easier to sit in front of NetFlaccid every night, but do you have any sense of satisfaction from it and don't you sometimes hear about the other interesting shows and movies that NetFlaccid doesn't carry and wonder "That looks good but ........... :( and go back to your couch and resign yourself to The NetFlaccid Way? Life is too short for that. You are too important! You deserve better! Get creative and enjoy a sense of accomplishment from managing your own personal entertainment profile using your God-given Intelligence and KnowHow.

Remember when we were all slaves to Big Cable? Oh, that new show looks good, I think I'll watch it! Oh, it's on channel Moron 12. That's not in my package! Oh well, I'll subscribe to it then, it's only 9 dollars a month more. Wash rinse, repeat x 9 and you've got $81 more on your bill. Soon you have a monstrous cable bill of $150 per month that's eating you alive and you are sitting through mind-numbing, nausea-inducing commercials and programming that are taking several points off your IQ every day and turning you into a Shopping Zombie!

The 2020 Cable Cutter market is in some ways similar to the old Big Cable one. If you want to cherry-pick only the best, most intelligent, commercial-free content, you will also be sticker shocked. So do some research and you will see that there are so many options out there now it will boggle your mind!

When, and if you leave NetFlaccid, please tell them why you are leaving. They will not listen, nor will they care, you are less than a speck of sand for them, but at least you will feel better. Then move on and never look back............... or you will turn into a pillar of salt! Sorry! Couldn't resist!:)

Well i have to agree with you! But ...
on response to the post before, i can only say i have a premium account so on Minix i can even watch 4K content, fast access to media and best of all 5.1 Dolby sourround only possible with Kodi and the Add-on
