Unable to upgrade BIOS J50C4MAX Pentium Silver J5005 8GB

My mini PC is running BIOS Project Version GMLOB 0.19 x 64 and I I am advised I need to upgrade to Version 0.24 in order to upgrade to Win 11.

I have tried doing this with the files supplied my Minix several times and it simply does not work (BIOS stays as 0.19).

I have several emails from Martin Yuen at Minix just advising me to try again.....but its OK saying that.....it doesnt work!!!

Does anyone have any solutions for this please as I would like to upgrade to Win 11 as soon as possible.

Thanks

Phil Gee

You may have a problem with your windows 10...

Hi, try this:
First you need to download the file:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/neo-j50c-4-max-bios-v0-24-20210827.4141/

(use safe mode instead of normal boot)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-au...-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234

Follow the other instructions:
2. Put the below 4 files at the same folder.
- AFUWINx64.EXE
- amifldrv64.sys
- 0B024.BIN
- update.bat

3. Right-click 'update.bat' file, and select 'run as administrator'.

4. BIOS will be automatically flashed, don't interrupt it, and the
process would finish in a couple of seconds.

5. When finished, shutdown the device.

Option: (instead of windows update)
Windows 11 MINIX image here: (warning all data will be lost)

You also can try:
-go to the BIOS and reset to factory settings (save and exit)
-use windows live cd (example) and update the BIOS from there.

Same here ! (very strange)

I have just managed to get this to work now......but in order to do so I had to disable my Virus protection and the Windows Firewall......then worked first time.......only issue I now have is that my PC is stating its still not suitable for Win 11 in Windows update.......I have confirmed the BIOS is now updated to version 0.24......this is so frustrating.....been trying for months to do this!

Have you checked the BIOS?
Advanced
Trusted Computing
Security Device Support [Enable]

Yes - checked the BIOS - however I have found out from Microsoft Website that it may take a few days for Windows Update to recognise your PC is now Win 11 compliant......so can either wait for Win Update to recognise or alternatively force an update from Microsoft.....so I should now be sorted in the short term!

Thanks for your replies though.

I thought you meant that you had run PC Health Check and it said it wasn't compatible!

This is what I get...

Although I have had this message in Updates for a while now....

In order to install Windows 11: (With 0 24 BIOS)
-TPM 2.0 is already enable.
-i believe you need to enable secure boot (BIOS tab security).

Check if your device is ready for win 11:
-run pc healthy check

If is ready you can use windows update or install MINIX win 11 image (Recommended image if you want to do a clean install):

Yeah, there is that too!
It also defaults to [Enable]

But we now know @pmrgee is just talking about Windows Update issueing the upgrade!
Yes i know ? but if everything is well configured (windows 10 up to date, and with the latest BIOS) there shouldn't be any problem to update to windows 11 (via windows update).

But you can only upgrade through Windows Update when Microsoft have decided to issue you with said upgrade!

My J50C-4 has only recently offered me the upgrade.
