[Unofficial] - 6.0.1 Marshmallow ROM for the U1

Are there any features you need that your U1 doesn't support right now, or do you just want to update for the sake of it? The U1 still works great for me, and I'm still on official Lollipop. My son spent the day today (again) playing Pajama Sam on it. If you really need an upgrade, you'll probably want to upgrade the hardware too, there's only so much you can do with software. The U22 currently runs Android 9, so that would be the way to properly upgrade.
I just want to upgrade because lots of apps don't support anymore Android lollipop and marshmallow, and I really like the neo u1.

Hello, I'm trying to find a update for my minix neo u1 and I only find this one the problem is that android 6.0.1 its getting old and I found that another android box with the amlogic s905 as Android 8.1. It is possible to create a custom rom from this box to the u1?
It is not possible to port the ROM of the other box mentioned as it is actually a S905X SOC, I downloaded the .img file and extracted it:
U1 board: ro.build.product=p200_2G
Other board: ro.build.product=p212

p200=S905
p212=S905X

Thanks for the reply and sorry to know this but in the specs of that box they only said it's amlogic s905 they don't say it's s905x that was the problem. Thanks for explaining this.

Everything on my U1 has been working great until Disney+ updated to version 1.51. I was able to manually install it via APK pure because it's saying my device is no longer compatible on Google Play. The app opens but then closes after a few seconds. Clearing data and cache allows me to open the app and sign in but then it keeps closing again, consistently after a few seconds of opening the app. Reverting back to an old version doesn't work as it keeps telling me I need to update the app.

Questions:

1) Is anyone running the latest Disney+ app on this ROM and is it working?
2) are there any other benefits of installing this ROM if everything else is working fine? I use Netflix, Kodi, YouTube and Optus Sports.

I don't want to create other issues if it's just Disney+ that's not working and I don't want to have to go through the effort of installing the ROM and Disney+ still doesn't work. Their website suggests it should work
"For the best experience, we recommend a high-speed Internet connection and Android OS version 5.0 (Lollipop) or later."

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for this ROM CFW002.
I've been using it for several months without issue, but over the last month sound output through HDMI has stopped, although it is able to cast sound ok. I've discovered HDMI sound output stops when the minix A3 remote dongle is plugged into a USB port & sound resumes if the dongle is removed.
I've tried the suspect A3 remote with a different U1 with stock 5.1.1 FW-013 & it doesn't affect the HDMI sound.
I've done a factory reset, but the problem still occurs; is there any way to debug/resolve this issue ?
TIA

Hmm... I'm not experiencing this issue and I use an A3 remote with my U1 as well. I'm wondering if it's hardware related.

Have you tried different USB ports on the U1?
Does your friend have an different A3 remote you could try with your box?
Have you tried clearing system cache?
Have you tried a factory reset (note - all apps and data will be erased)?
Have you tried reinstalling the rom with the USB burning tool?

Thanks for the swift response Moosejaw.
Plugging the A3 remote receiver into any USB port (including the OTG) silences the HDMI audio.
I've tried an A2 remote & it works ok and doesn't affect HDMI audio output.
Wiping cache partition from the recovery menu does not solve the issue.
Factory reset from the recovery menu does not solve the issue.
I'm unable to reinstall the ROM at present (the U1 is not recognised by USB Burning Tool in my USB 3.0 laptop). I may have to obtain a USB 2.0 laptop.

The U1 is switching to USB audio, try think of changes you have possibly made recently in the settings? @MooseJaw does your ROM have the option to disable USB audio?

[Solved] HDMI audio with the A3 remote connected has been re-enabled by 'Developer Options | Disable USB audio rooting'.
I don't recall changing any settings when the problem occurred & I think the factory resets I subsequently did would have set all options to default.
Thank you Moosejaw & Marty for the great help.

I noticed with this custom rom that the minix a2 remote doesn’t allow you to use the tabs button (2 squares icon) doesn’t work and only way to actually close off a app is to go to settings select app and force stop it. Not sure if There is a fix or solution for it.

Other then that I see no real big issues with the rom. And want to say thanks for supplying it.

Hmmm... It should work. I don't own that remote, so I created the kl file using a modified A2 lite .kl remote file.

If you enable root, you could take a look at the kl file.

Ok thanks for the response, Honestly the rom works great other then the remote tab button issue. I think you did a great job with it.
I’ll have to have a look for this .kl remote file. And hopefully figure out what’s going on with It. Not to sure where to exactly locate it though or what exactly I’m looking for. Any info would be very much appreciated thanks!

You can also access the android menu by 'dragging up' from the bottom of the screen & then sliding the individual app boxes to the left or right.

Apologies if this has been answered already, but what does Android 6.x bring to the U1 over 5.x? Apart from security fixes I suppose. Is it faster? Is it a different UI? What about XBMC/Kodi? Can I install any version? They still support 4k/HEVC?

Quite the beginner in this.
Haven't used the Minix in quite some time but since I bought a new TV I would like to get it started again.
I downloaded the ROM yesterday and installed the USB Burning tool.
I started the tool, connected the minix to the laptop, pressed the power button for longer than 6 seconds untill I heard the beeping sounds.
Is it possible you can't see the minix in the burning tool? The places where it says "Device ID" are both empty.
I can load the img to the burning tool and press start but it then appears nothing really happens.

How long should I wait?

If I check the USB connections from the laptop it recognizes the Minix.

Do I need to root the minix or something before I can install this ROM?
