Use Of Neo X8-H Plus as a standalone multimedia streamer like a NAS

Good day,
I would like to know regarding the procedure to convert the Neo X8-H Plus to a mini NAS and use it as a media sever with HDD's connected. The requirement is to acces this server from lapotos, android phones and android televisions using say Plex. Is it possible first of All? If yes please advise a way forward.
I Am using Lollipop 5.1.1 and the device is not rooted. (Though had been trying to root it using various methods listed in Forums But unable to do so!!).
If some of you guys could update the post with picture by picture process to do so or even a proper video of the same will be really greatful!!
I want ot use this hardware for above as it has not been in use for while with arrival of new android television at home.
Thanks in advance guys. Cheers!!

hi Marty thanks a ton for the response...for the above sadly no its not working for me..having the same issues as are listed in the thread also am a bit new to the rooting thing so am not very sure if am actually getting into the TWRP recovery menu as mentioned in the post.
mostly i am getting the signature verification failure and it comes back from there and goes back to the device being unrooted..thats the reason i was wanting to know how diffrent does the twrp boot screen look from the normal recovey screen..
hope to get some leads from your end..in the mean time will have a look at the emby server as suggested by @Villa..Cheers!!

A couple of ideas...

HI there thanks for the links..obviously have been trying the first video method with sambadroid for past two days but no luck as my device is not rooted and am unable to do so as i mentioned in a reply above..though the emby server idea looks good and will give it a try..please fwd any more leads specially with respect to root the device as am really strugling to get it done..and not to forget am a newbie to rooting..so graphical representations as pictures and videos work very well for me..Cheers!!

Take a look in the Play Store for other Samba Server apps. There are some that don't require root!

Definitely seems you are booting into stock recovery, you should be seeing the following boot screen:

Then the following options screen:

Another option would be to flash a ROM that is already rooted, either of these:

Surely i ain't getting any screen like this..it's just the normal recovery screen..so what exactly is the procedure for this I keep holding the recovery and the power button..the minix logo appears..I still keep holding the two and the normal recovery screen appears..should I leave any of the buttons this time? Or should I keep holding them further? That's the confusing part..

Furthermore will have a look at the suggestions..
Please update me on the above as to how exactly to go about entering the twrp recovery screen..
Meanwhile thanks for the patience which you will require walking me thru the process??

First up, can you confirm that the SD Card has been formatted to FAT32 and that you have TWRP renamed to recovery.img on the SD Card? Is the SD Card properly seated in the box, is it detected through a file explorer in Android before you try booting into recovery? If yes to all have you tried a different SD Card? I have an 8GB card that will not boot into TWRP for some odd reason so try other cards. Once we have the basics covered we can troubleshoot further.

Hi Marty 1)yes the card is formatted to FAT32. 2) TWRP has been renamed to recovery.img. 3) card is seated and is detected by file explorer. 4) the two cards which I tried though are 8GB so is that fishy? I will try to search for another card but am afraid if I have one.. what's the least memory card I can use? I have one old spare with 1 GB cap.. can I use a pen drive instead? With Covid 19 lockdown at my place to buy a card seems difficult at the moment..

Also regarding the recovery and the power button..how long should they be kept pressed? And in what order I mean should I leave the power button and hold ony recovery button when the recovery screen comes up or any other sequence..

Success Success Success!!
The real culprit was the SD card loaded the files on 1GB card and Voila!!
Attaching pics for future reference..

Have got sambadroid up and running..please suggest an alternative server like Emby/Plex which is feature loaded and can be accessed by a web interface..as this box would sit near the router with no display attached and only acting as a server with HDD attached..
Thanks a ton guys @Marty and @Villa cheers and a gr8 and safe Covid free weekend ahead!!

Emby server seemed very nice but given the limitations of the box..need to find something on the same lines which can accomodate older android as well..please suggest..
