Video pauses randomly

Hi
Have been using Minix for quite sometime. Have recently started noticing that my videos which I am streaming from my local cloud drive randomly pause. Its irritating. I just click play and they resume.
There is no network issue and no load on router. It is not A particular file that has a problem but randomly any video I play pauses at some point or other.

Could low battery of remote be an issue? Just thinking loud... Otherwise the device is working fine.

Thanks in advance

have you tried clearing the cache of whatever app you are using
cant see how the remote would have any impact.....
to confirm its not your network can you transfer the video onto a usb and play direct on the minix ( ie no network transfer)

Sounds like an app is stealing the limelight in the background. This used to happen for me and I nailed it down to ES File Explorer that was the culprit. If you have installed any apps recently I would revisit these as a possible cause.

Yes, I've been getting this too. I thought it was XBMC (v16.3 that I use for videos) but none of the suggestions mention it. Will try these suggestions, hope it works.

Kodi 18.x would be a better option these days , runs fine on the U1 ( in daily use here)
I would say most video streaming issues are in some way network related so the easy test is to pop the video file on a usb stick and see how it plays from there first.

Yeah, most likely a network issue, as all my vids are in a NAS (though Cat 6 connection).
Can you send me a link to Kodi 18.x pls? I've been out of the picture for almost 2 years from playing around w/ the system.
And where do I install it from again, any file manager, right? Thanks.

PS. Wow, you've got lots of units! Worth upgrading my U1 to any of those? Sorry, OT.

Update: Just found Kodi 18.9. One more question, w/c should be for the U1, Arm64 8a or Armeabi 7a? Thanks again!

Hi.
You can download from playstore or kodi website (https://kodi.tv/download)
ARMV7A32 bits is the release.
Recommended and stable version is 18.9.

Note:
I tested 19.0 beta build but it has bugs that i already found and can be unstable (i already experienced that with android and Windows OS... ).

Using Kodi 18.9 now, but sometimes go back and use XBMC 16.3 because few films I've tried judder in Kodi, but run fine in XBMC. Perhaps I missed activating/deactivation a certain value in settings?

"judder" is not usually a streaming issue (which is buffering )
on older xmbc versions i recall there being additional codecs for playback, which are generally for older avi, divx type encodes, and now absent in more recent versions of kodi

Any suggestions to correct this? It's intermittent at only some portions of the video, but only in Kodi. If not for the pausing, XBMC still appears nicer.

Not really, either get later encodes of the troublesome ones , stick with xbmc 16.3 or get a 16.3 fork so you can have both 16.3 and 18.9 on your system, or try another media player

Couple of things you could try depending on how bad your judder is..??

1. What frame rate is the media you're watching?
2. Have you configured Kodi to adjust the display refresh rate on start/stop or are you watching your files at the hard setting of the device?

Double check those to start with if you hadn't already of course.

You could also try disabling HW acceleration for your troublesome media files & enable it again as required. (In Kodi's settings -> player -> disable both MediaCodec options.)

You could also try hard setting the output display of the device itself to match the actual media in case there's a deeper issue & see what happens.

I.e. if you have your U1 to constantly output at 4K@30 Hz & the media you're watching is encoded (for example) at 25 Hz, try hard setting the U1 to output at 4K@25 or 1080@25.

Any improvement or still the same issues after the above? It may give you some additional clues to follow depending on what you see happening with a little tinkering :).
