Video players don't load subtitles files using usb flash drive

Hi,

I have several movies with its subtitles files (srt) in a usb flash drive. Each movie and its subtitle have the same name.
If I connect the usb drive in my windows pc VLC play the movie displaying automatically the subtitles. So, movies and subtitles are fine.

However, if I connect the same usb flash drive in the NEO U9-H, MX Player play the movie but doesn't load the srt file. If I try to open the srt file using the menu, I'm not able to find the files, I have no idea where are located ... I've tried others play without luck.

I don't understand why MX Player can't load the srt files, which are located at the same directory, and also have the same name than the movie ...

Any ideas?

Have you try kodi? Kodi is still the best media player you can have.

Kodi works fine for windows and android.
I also use from time to time Bs player , very good media player.

If by case subtitles dont load you need to manually select them, you need to setup the program correctly.

I advice you to this:
Movie folder/movie name.srt (same name as the movie.srt)

You say that you tried other players to the same result. Well, subtitles should work with Kodi, VLC, and MX Player, in the U9-H, and if this is the player you chose, I can't see why it would not work, with this one and all the other players. I can assure you it does, as I have it and it even allows to choose from several subtitles in the same folder which to play (you can add two letters between the "movie and subtitle name" and the ".srt" to have several languages in the same folder, for instance ".en" means English, ".fr" French ".es" Spanish - actually Kodi makes good use of these)

Since you ask for ideas I got some:
- Make sure that your MX Player is the latest version.
When you start MX Player from the apps menu, it starts with a list of all the accessible folders. Open the folder that you know to have a movie inside and check if you have a blue or green label "srt" under the movie file name. If it does it will have to play the movie and the subtitle.

If the mentioned "srt" label is not there, please do the following: open your file manager, explore the pen drive and confirm that the "srt" file is physically in the movie folder. I know, I am not doubting your skills, I just happen to have found situations when the video players -not only in computers, but mostly- put the subtitles in a different folder and create a virtual connection between that folder and the movie. If you still didn't try this, you might get surprised.

If the subtitle is there... Try to open it with a text or note editor, normally available in the file manager.

Please report back.

@cgmds check again movie name and subtitle name are they exactly the same. Also try other players for Android like Kodi,BSPlayer for Android,VLC for Android. It must work.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same situation too.
ES explorer, file manager able to see these files; .mp4, .srt, etc.
The thing is that during movie playing (open from ES explorer) either in MX player, vlc, etc, when tried to load/open the subtitle, the player only able to browse internal storage, not the usb flash drive. seems like the player did not able to access the usb flash drive.

When I copied the .srt into internal storage, the player able to browse and load it.
So movie played from usb flash drive but .srt loaded from internal storage.
Although this is like a quick fix, it is a hassle, need to copy the .srt in internal first before able to load the subtitle.

Let me know if anything not clear.

Peace...

Hi,
I've got this folder in a pen drive with movies 1, 2, 3, 4
Opening MX player it starts with a page similar to pic 1 with all folders with movies in the several USB drives.
When you get in a folder that has movies and subtitles you should see something similar to pic 2, the filename for the movie, in this case 1/2/3/4 and under the movie name the coloured labels indicating there are subtitles (In the example there are two labels per movie because each movie has two different subtitles).

Does this happen to you?IMG_20190625_050217.jpg

Also check that between operations the USB volume keeps mounted, see if volume name is over the clock square if you are using Minix Metro.

@darkcruizer as i said before check again movie and subtitle name are they exactly the same. You can browse and load subtitle even if is not the same name as the movie name.Try different usb flash drive and different usb port. Also you can delete subtitle and manually type subtitle name exactly as the movie name.Sometimes this method works for me.@CybeRider shows you pictures and it must be like pictures.

Thanks for the feedback @CybeRider and @mark lob...

After few times of plugging, unplugging and re-plugging the usb, I came to conclusion that ES File Explorer is the one that make all other apps unable to see/access the usb flash drive.

Situation #1:
Plugging usb flash drive, ES File explorer will pop up asking whether to open the usb with it.
I chose YES. Means that ES File Explorer already open/read the usb flash drive.
Browse the movie from usb with ES File Explore and play it by selecting MX Player from the list of apps that ES File Explorer pops up.
While movie playing with MX Player, tried to load/open subtitle, unable to find the usb flash drive directory.

Situation #2:
Plugging usb flash drive, ES File explorer will pop up asking whether to open the usb with it.
I chose NO. Means that ES File Explorer did NOT open/read the usb flash drive.
Launch MX Player apps.
I was able to see the movies that are inside the usb flash drive form MX Player, just like @CybeRider shown.
Play the movie and the subtitle able to appear in the movie.
Go to main/home, open FileBrowser app and it able to see the usb directory.

Situation #3:
Plugging usb flash drive, ES File explorer will pop up asking whether to open the usb with it.
I chose YES. Means that ES File Explorer already open/read the usb flash drive.
Return to home/main.
Launch MX Player apps.
I was NOT able to see the movies that are inside the usb flash drive.
I tried to include the folder of movies from the usb (from MX Player setting) but MX Player was unable to locate the usb directory.
Go to main/home, open FileBrowser app, it also NOT able to see the usb directory.

Once situation #1 and #3 happen, if i just terminate ES File Explorer, it still NOT able to see the usb drive.
It only able to see the usb drive after re-plugging the usb drive.

This is what I tried so far.
I'm not sure whether only ES File Explorer that locks the usb once it open/read it or not and why it doing such a way.

Peace...

Great findings @darkcruizer, I still couldn't reproduce the situation but once I had one of the USB (a 1TB disk) sources disconnected in the middle of the process.

So I was getting a bit lost. Your efforts represent giant steps towards the solution of this annoyance that is affecting many others.

Thanks a lot for the great report!

You're always better off running apps directly rather than going through other apps like ES!! (Case in point lol ;).)

Additionally, ES itself can be questionable at times too. (For example - https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...lay-store-possibly-part-of-do-global-scandal/ .)

I use the paid version of File Commander but there are plenty of free file browsers available if you need one :).

Have you also tried Kodi?

Point taken... will always run directly after this... :)

Haven't try Kodi yet... will try it next...

To avoid this go to...
ES File Explorer Settings, Display settings and switch off USB plug-in message

Thanks for the steps to turn off the settings.

Thanks all for giving your suggestion on this problem. :)
