VPN Unlimited Dropping After 12 minutes

Hi,
I’ve got a minix U1 box which I’m using to stream tv through IPTV Smarters.
it works perfectly for exactly 12 minutes then disconnects. Then I have to log out and log back in and the same thing happens again. I’ve tried all the different protocols.
I have a cheaper q box upstairs with no problems.

Thanks in Advance

Anybody experienced this?

"it" being the VPN or Smarters?

If "it" is the VPN then you need to address this with the VPN provider, if "it" is the Smarters then you need to confirm with your IPTV provder that they allow a VPN with your account, not all of them do. I suspect the latter is your problem.

Thanks for the replies. I have the same set up on my q box, IPad and IPhone. They all work perfectly (Smarters and VPN Unlimited). I changed the protocol to TCP on the q box as it was timing out also and that seems to have fixed it.

Its just the minix box I can’t get working. Is there any other settings on the box I need to change?

No, there aren't any additional settings you need to change on the U1 etc. If you have a VPN app installed that will do the necessary for you. (It's a little more involved initially but another option is to potentially configure your router to connect through the VPN directly, then all of your devices that access the net through the router will be connected through the VPN as well without the need for an app on each individual device.)

You apparently have a QBox with "no problems", except the fact that it too is or was also timing out at regular intervals ;)????

Is the Qbox 100% fine or have you had to fiddle with different protocols in the VPN app to stop the QBox constantly disconnecting too?

Otherwise, comparing apps that work well on your Apple devices to the same app that doesn't work well on an Android system is quite literally apples & oranges as well ;)!!

If you're also having to change the protocol on another Android device due to timeouts your best bet would be to enter a support ticket with your VPN service provider to look into why the app is disconnecting with Android in the first place, (as has already been suggested anyway).

Have you also carried out some basic research & troubleshooting to ensure you don't have any issues with your router or network hardware that could contribute to these dropouts? Yes, it's possible for such an issue to effect certain hardware/software & not others too, although such an issue may generally be present universally. (If you do a little reading up on the basics of how, for example, UDP works vs TCP, it may give you some additional clues as to the cause such as packet loss, a chronically delayed response, or even no response from one link along the chain etc. == Timeouts/dropouts.)

Start with your provider, however, see what they have to say first. If their app is half as good as most VPN providers out there it'll have a logging facility built in for their devs to easily debug such issues for you & quickly determine where in the chain this problem may reside :).
