Why kodi ?

General question. I see many posts about kodi installed on neo minix (version here). The question is why kodi? With all the stand alone apps why install kodi? What does it offer and does it not impact CPU usage as unneeded overhead ? Asking before I decide to use it on minix neo x8 h-plus. Thanks.

Because Kodi is the best mediacenter on the market since years (XBMC old name)
It not impact the CPU usage ,only when you open Kodi and use it (like all Android apps)
Kodi is Android app
The same Kodi exist as os (operating system like windows , android...) Called - coreelec ,it can be used on all boxes with amlogic CPU ...

Unfortunately the X8-H Plus is not supported by CoreElec, its too old :( There was however LibreElec available, a search on Google would be needed though as the instructions were on the old forum....
 
oh thank you both for your reply. A lot of food for thought. I have not heard of libreelec but I will give it a look. As old as x8-h plus is, I think it still has plenty of life left in it. Im very happy with my thriftshop $20 purchase.
