WiFi Issues - NEO U22-XJ (FW004)

@mkken1
Wifi is working well.
I tested several times, different SSIDS, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

Note:
In order to use wifi you need to remove RJ45 cable.
The device give priority to ethernet.

Windows is similar but you have the option to disable ethernet connection or remove rj45 cable.

Hi, I am having issue with my U22-XJ recognizing one of my 5Ghz networks.

I have 2 2.4Ghz networks and 2 5Ghz networks. It detects the 2.4Ghz networks without issue. But it doesn't detect one of my 5Ghz networks.

The 5Ghz network that it cannot detect uses an AC/N-Mixed network, and channels 149+155.

It is able to be detected by my Minix U9-H located in the same position, as well as my laptop, my cell and my tablet. The U22-XJ is located about 12 feet from the router.

Do you have any suggestions?

I have the same issue on an asus router which advertises both the 2.4 and 5GHZ networks but the U22 only sees the 2.4 wireless Network. All my other devices see both

Hi there,

Thanks for chiming in and confirming the issue.

I have 4 different networks, over 2 different modems (One Asus and One Netgear). My U22 is only able to see 2.4GHz networks. It cant see any 5GHz networks, even ones that aren't mine.

Thanks!

Wireless connectivity is working well.
Tested with 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz channells.

There are no issues with that.

I tested with several routers and ssids. (2.4GHZ and 5.0 GHZ).
you must review your setup.

Hi,

Thanks for chiming in. I have reviewed my setup more than once. I'm reasonably technically competent with Android and Wireless technologies. I have an Electrical Engineering degree.

All of my other devices can connect to the 5GHz network without issues. So I'm quite puzzled.

My Asus router is running stock firmware, and my Netgear is running DD-WRT.

Since some people aren't having this issue, I suspect that it's something very subtle. Possibly something like a different WIFI Regulatory Domain or something that's causing an incompatibility.

Thanks!

I have also a degree but in management informatics and almost master in computer science (just not delivered my thesis).
I also use DD-WRT.

So again you must review your all network/setup (routers, restart also switches if you have , configuration, etc).
Check the distamce, walls, etc from your U22-XJ to routers.

last resort:
-Factory reset U22-XJ and use the latest firmware available (don´t forget that will wipe your data and settings, do a backup first to NAS (if needed) , etc.).
-factory reset your Asus Router
-Check (and update if needed) your dd-wrt router firmware version (newest firmwares are beta buils...)

I'm not questioning your competency at any level. All I'm saying is that I do have some background in this field so I doubt the issue will be a simple setup error.

I just find it odd that other devices can see the 5GHz networks, but my U22 doesn't.

In fact, my U22 didn't see my 5GHz networks even on initial boot, during my first initial setup, or after the setup was completed by using the Settings->Connections->WIFI options.

As a third confirmation, I just quickly setup my portable travel router, and my U22 can't see it's 5GHz network either.

I appreciate your confidence in the U22 and it's ability. But are you at least open to the fact that just because your U22 works on your networks, doesn't represent exhuastive testing to confirm that the U22 works on all 5Ghz networks?

For example, is it remotely possible that the U22 has an compatibility issue with gear from other countries? Or there's some other certification/compliance network issue that my U22 might have?

All I'm saying is that just because your U22 works on your networks, doesn't mean that the U22 doesn't have a WIFI issue.

I'll consider a factory reset, but was hoping to at least try 005FW when it's released before I do. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks.

Have you tried changing the 5Ghz channel ?

My thoughts exactly! @pusb87. About two weeks ago My U22 lost my 5Ghz network after some ISP crash, and no matter what I would do, nothing seemed to bring it back, the 2.4 Ghz was fine though. Changing the channel from 56 to 36 in the 5Ghz network did the trick!

I hope that works for @Knowthenazz !

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for chiming in!

I have tried another 5GHz channel, but just one other. It is peculiar why it's not able to pick up any of my 5GHz networks. I had previously tried it because I thought that it was possible to have an incompatibility with a Regulatory Domain (I currently have mine set to USA).

Perhaps this weekend I'll play with changing the WIFI Channel some more and see if I get any luck.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

@Knowthenazz
Nect firmware for U22-XJ is unknown.

I am not saying that it must work for you but it should work.

I am saying that you must try all possibilities available and i still think you may have any configuration conflit.

You can try and downgrade U22-XJ firmware but i don't advice that.

Here are official firmware releases:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?forums/neo-u22-xj-official-firmware-releases.132/

Thanks for the information regarding the next firmware release, and the potential for downgrading.

I'm going to try changing my 5GHz WIFI channel as suggested, and see if that resolves anything.

Thanks!

Ok.

Here are some of my DD-WRT (second) router configs: (connected via cable to primary router)
-wireless mode - AP
-wireless network mode - mixed
-channel width - VHT80
-wireless channel - auto
-wireless network name - dd-wrt

Double check your wifi security options/config.

Have you tried setting your router to auto in channels, as opposed to one or other fixed channel? It is worth a try.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I really appreciate it.

So great news! I finally got my U22 to recognize that 5GHz network by changing it to WIFI channel 36, from 100.

I have confirmed that this works on my router with DD-WRT, and my Asus router with stock firmware.

As mentioned, my Regulatory Domain is set to USA, and channel 100 should be recognized in the USA, Canada, Europe and Japan...all but not Russia for some reason.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

So I'm wondering why channel 100 isn't recognized on the U22? I suspect there are other channels not recognized as well.

I remember when I first tried troubleshooting this problem, I had tried a couple other channels as well, but didn't have any luck. Thanks again for suggesting channel 36.

IF some common WIFI channels aren't recognized by design on the U22, perhaps that should be documented somewhere. Otherwise, I'm fairly certain it's a bug.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out!

It is hard to report it as a bug for such a hit and miss kind of issue. My personal case, my U22 was perfectly well connecting to channel 56, until the service provider had that crash, and only then things started to get strange.

My option for channel 36 was only because in my area that is the defaut channel for a different operator, so I decided to give it a try and it worked. There was no other reason than that, and I really can't point out a reason why that particular channel would work in spite of any other. My second choice would have been 104, once again because it is the preferred channel for another operator, but since 36 worked I didn't try that one.

I avoid trying channels that nobody is using since for quite some time the only channel where I could catch Internet signal in my area, for the 5Ghz, for some reason was the single channel my ISP had by default and the only one we could connect to, either in "Auto" mode, or manually.

I am glad you managed to get it working. ;)

My router's 5GHz Wireless Channel is set to Auto. I changed it to 100 and confirm it is no longer found by the U22-XJ.

I have no idea what this means or whether it is a bug?!

I will do further tests with other devices and channel 100 when I can.
