Windows 8.1 on NGC-1

Anyone tried to install Windows 8.1 on the NGC-1?
I suppose the driver pack in this thread is Win10 only:

Windows 10 with its constant, endless, compulsory update is getting on my nerves. Switch on the box once a month to watch a quick video? Make sure to schedule 1/2 hour for updates and reboots!

I found a website suggesting changing the group policy, but if I try to run gpedit.msc, the NGC-1 tells me it's not found
I used a registry change instead, and I didn't get the dreaded "please wait while we configure updates" last time I switched it off, so touching wood.
