Not play 4k on minix x8h plus (lollipop 5.1.1), only 1080p.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Well, I recall about older versions of YouTube TV app deciding for you what was the best resolution to go and not allowing you to choose it on your own from a slider. They went one step further in this one. Although they now allow you to choose the resolution you want from a slider (and I was starting to get impressed there) it seems they now decided which machines will perform 4k or not (and that was a big thumbs down to me so far), since I also can't seem to spot the way to choose 4k playing in my U1 new YouTube TV app slider, but it works quite well on the U9-H. So it might be it is deciding on its own that your x8h plus also doesn't deserve 4k playing after all!

Anyone with a hint?

Also, it filled the notifications bar with so many playing suggestions which seem impossible to clear out. So, that was the last drop for me. Out it went. :poop:

@Teordoro it works on Neo U9-H but i think that Amlogic S812 does not support 2160p in VP9.Try SmartYoutube from above link @Skynet.

The options to choose from in SmartYoutube for 4k playing are for VP9 as well, SmartYoutube doesn't change that, if it was a question of the processor not being able to read it it would fail just the same. Besides, the U1 is not S812, and the same thing happens, there must be another explanation.

But one thing is true, SmartYoutube should work for 4k in the x9h-plus, as it does in the U1. As will the computer version of the YouTube site in the web browser.

@CybeRider someone who has Neo X8-H Plus and Neo X6 both upgraded to lollipop will give the best answer.Who knows is it firmware or something else.

I wish, because this is really awkward, and I certainly don't have an answer for it to work with the U9-H but not with the U1(mine is also Lollipop) I have both and no best answer for it. Do you think we can get the opinion of the YouTube TV app creators? That would very likely be the really best answer.

(As far as I'm aware X6 is not 4k capable from hardware limitations)

It could be something related to Lollipop, in case it would not work any other way. But the fact is that 4k VP9 runs well in most YouTube app clones 4k capable, and also in the computer version of YouTube site, in Lollipop, so I am ditching also that reason.

@CybeRider I know that X6 is not 4K capable only how app works. You can ask YouTube Tv creators but first opinions who have Neo X8-H Plus.We can speculate all day and night.

@mark lob I am here for two reasons replying to this topic:

1 - Because I regret that I didn't try this out for more than a week and let everybody to believe that the opening post for this thread is true. Well, I have to report that now that I tried it, I don't find it so acceptable that it has this flaw in the U1 (you read the thread title, did you?)

2 - Because @Teordoro asked for a suggestion for putting this to work in a X8h plus, with Lollipop, which seems quite logical for me, as that machine is probably as high range as the U1, or even better. By the way I am still waiting for someone to tell us if they could really do 4k in the U1 with it (no speculations please)

Now, logically, should this version be working normally for the U1 as @Adam Foreman claimed, @Teordoro question would be quite legit. But since I can not make it work in the U1 as supposed, so we are very likely dealing with the same situation in both machines.

There is no speculation in saying that we can't put something to work.

Putting the X8h plus processing capabilities down comparing to the U1 on the other hand is quite speculative, as the x8h-plus is an equal or better quality machine, and thousands will likely be reading this thread. Especially when you assumed it would work with another app. As speculative it is to assume that someone with an X6 would have a better answer on playing 4k than someone trying to put it through an U1.

Unfortunately I am not very free to speculate, but I think we are all free to try solutions without needing to speculate. But thanks for your remark.

@CybeRider

The U1 is NOT capable of playing 4K DRM protected content. It needs a fast processor and I believe its chip has to have the code decoding ability. 4K is not the same as 4K HDR. That's why the model doesn't quote that on its specifications. If you want to play 4K HDR content, you need to use a PC with good CPU and GPU or an Android TV Box that clearly states its capable of doing the same. The U1 is what I use on my standard HD 1080p TV because that's really all its capable of.

I'm upgrading to the Shield soon for this very reason. MINIX's prices, IMHO, are today way over priced compared to what's avaible on the market today spec vs price. I think I paid £120 for my U1 and the Shield is roughly £150 these days, it also supports OREO and potentially PIE too. Sometimes you have to accept a products limitations as 4K /4K HDR finds its feet in the streaming market
