YouTube History

My YouTube history isn't working on my new NEO U22-XJ. All the YouTube account settings are good and it works with all the other platforms I use. It's a bit annoying because YouTube keeps serving up stuff I have watched and doesn't learn from my viewing and the Minix box is my main device for this activity!

Any ideas?

I did a search and nothing!

Thanks

Are you using the official YouTube app? Can you give Smart YouTube TV a try and see if it is the same:

Well...

That fixes the history issue and the bonus is there are several things about the TV app that I prefer, so thanks for that.

The frustrating thing is that the app seems completely unresponsive to the A3 air mouse and seems to assume that you are using a normal click around type remote.

I might try the old A2 mouse from my U9-H.

OK... now I get it, the TV app shows you menus that are deactivated until you go back up one layer. It will not let you just go directly to a selection until you back out of the submenu.

Right...

So now all I need is a Netflix App that will get past their silly high def restrictions on unapproved devices! The joys... :)

So when you go into the Library Tab at the bottom and History it is just blank? If so then do check via the three dots on the same line as the word History that in History Control you haven't got Pause Watch history selected.

I very much doubt it is a U22 problem as it would be effecting a lot of users and you're the only one to report it.

Nope... it has the history from all my other devices but not the Minix. The issue is directly related to the std PlayStore YouTube app installed on the Minix recording history from that device. I had the same issue with my last Minix box, all my other devices recorded history but not the U9.

The U22 records history with that side loaded TV Youtube app posted by @Marty so you'd think it was the PlayStore app.

For the life of me I can't see why it is this way... but, it is?!

I might side load the PlayStore app and see if that changes things.

Have you tried simply uninstalling the original pre-loaded Youtube app & then just reinstall it from the Play Store ;)? (No sideloading required.)

(Sometimes the pre-loaded apps don't update properly & just need refreshing.)

You may even be able to just try clearing the cache and/or data for the app too, so try that first before uninstall/reinstall.

Yes.

and it wasn't pre loaded on the device I received.

It's the latest version and PlayStore is on auto update.

I suspect that it has to do with the way YouTube handles things @ the backend. I know that clients are treated differently in terms of suggestions and search results based on certain criteria, location being one of them. For instance... I'm an Australian and I will get differing results on searches that are deemed politically sensitive in the US. Friends in the US can't always find things that I can (yes goggle is playing politics!). Anyway... is suspect that the combo of Minix, full Android YouTube and my account lead to a snafu that upsets the history keeping algo. If I change platform or use TV Android I get history! I'm not suggesting it's by design, just an "undocumented feature"!

That is about the only thing I can come up with!

I might load a VPN for giggles just to see if that helps at all. Not sure why it would but I've run down every logical option I can think of!

One thing to check, see if a video you add to the 'Save to Watch Later' list on the U22 appears on your other device(s)?

And to confirm are you seeing your history from other devices on the U22?

Have you also tried clearing the system cache as well if you've already cleared the app cache & data?

Geo-restrictions could be a factor , although it would be incredibly odd indeed for run of the mill media to be blocked on a large scale.

Agreed, testing with a VPN is a good idea & it may be a viable workaround you can use for the time being.

Otherwise, try testing some media that just wouldn't be considered "sensitive" anywhere, and/or content specifically from Australia that would be utterly pointless to block out for resident Australians. It may at least help you confirm if it's just certain media that's being blocked out from your watch history or if it's everything you watch (Obviously, if everything is being blocked out, it's probably another issue.)

I realise it's a giant pain in the backside, but sometimes the way apps interface with the OS or your Google account can also become corrupted or experience issues & a factory reset can successfully clear them. (It's unfortunate, but it does happen.) Certainly worth trying if it will clear this issue once & for all to allow you to use the device as you'd prefer :).

I don't get why it has only been the U9 and the U22 that have this issue.

99.9% of the content I watch could in no way be considered sensitive, and it is pointless stopping history when all else is available so I'm sure its a snafu.

I've cleared caches etc... but the U22 is brand spanking new and I had the issue from the get go!

When I get more time to play I will try YouTube from some other apk source and I will try a VPN. Not sure why either of those should work but... still... will try.

Right now I'm fighting video issues, remote control issues so YouTube has been push down the fix list.

Now TV YouTube has stopped keeping my history.... and it was doing sooooooo well!

Are your other devices that are successfully updating your watch history as normal also Android too, or are they another OS?

Consider the factory reset if you're experiencing multiple issues.

Other Android devices are keeping history along with my PC's.

I unloaded the modded version of YouTube for TV Andriod and reloaded it to no avail then I side loaded the official version of YouTube for TV Andriod and that fixed the issue... once again... so, lets see how long that lasts!

I actually prefer the TV app so that's OK and I buy premium YouTube so I don't get the ads, they got ridiculous a little while back so I guess they badgered me into it!

Hopefully this fix holds!

It would seem YouTube made some changes to their code (server side) which also affected their app regarding history, I noticed Smart YouTube TV has also stopped showing history today. The developer has already corrected this in the beta version so I have no doubt that Smart YouTube TV and the official YouTube app will have an update shortly to fix this.

Recently I haven't had any History issues with Official YouTube or Smart YouTube.
