Do you want to turn your U9-H into a NAS ?
If yes, many solutions :
- Install a FTP server
- If you use a mac : https://codesector.com/droidnas
- The "NAS" must be always awake : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tr.edu.iyte.caffeine&hl=en_US
You'll want a NAS to store your local media. Synology or QNAP. Kodi on your client android boxes is the perfect software medium for local storage access and libraries.
Qnap & Synology are the market leaders in Network Attached Storage. Not sure what Qnap Synology are... I’m assuming any network hdd will work as the hardware? Can I buy this already setup?

@Tulloh does your router have a USB port?
If so you can connect a HDD to that and share data on your LAN ( Local Area Network).
This is a cheaper option if you don't want to spend too much!
Xpenology is working fine and is very powerful.

A free software you can install on an old PC to build a real and powerful NAS.Is that a hardware or software?

Thanks I went with the synology dds218
More likely a ds218 (damn autocorrect amiright), although there are four models in that family.
Either way it's a two bay model so you'll most likely set it up using Synology Hybrid RAID and two identical hard drives. If your data is important elect for one disk fault tolerance, because you only have two HDDs you'll lose half your capacity but it's a question of when not if a hdd will fail. However much storage you think you'll need you are underestimating. Buy the largest drives you can reasonably afford, and definitely run a check on them before you start putting data on them.
And lastly remember raid is not backup, there are USB ports on the back for a reason. It's possible to buy a single bay synology nas and backup to that or plug a USB hdd into the back of your 2 bay, but if your data is important backup, backup, backup.
So....got it setup, got it installed and running. I cannot however figure out how to install apps to it....
