Plans for Nougat

Please forgive me if this is a reoccurring question. I looked through the forum and was unable to find a definite answer. Are there plans to release a stable version for Nougat? The ability to control video settings in Nougat are far superior to Marshmallow. I own three Minix devices but I'm hesitant to stick with Minix as I feel the additional cost one pays should mean the user can upgrade to newer OSes. If anyone can comment on this I would be grateful. Thanks!

yes ... but since August 31, 2018 that is so ... and especially in version 7.1.1 ... not even a beta update? kodi for example makes many beta versions before releasing the official one. .. the weather is too much.

I suspect Minix is concentrating its workforce to new products like the X39. I don't know how much of this work can be ported to older products like the U9H. This is pure speculation, but I'd be welling to bet 7.something for the U9H will follow soon after the release of the X39 (as long as the X39 firmware is stable enough so they can put more time on older products). Who knows? :)

One thing for sure Forum rule #10 is PRETTY clear.

  • Don't ask for releases dates! Firmwares or updates or bug fixes will be released only when ready. All posts asking for ETA will be deleted without comments.

Again, I apologize. I don't feel my question is addressed anywhere on the forum nor do I feel that I'm breaking any rules. My question is, are there plans to update? I'm not asking when. I'd just like to know if there is a plan to. I own several Minix devices and I feel they are a bit pricey to just ignore their customers and make up what I believe to be poor forum rules. I paid for the device. I'm a loyal customer. I feel I have the right to ask the question and get a honest answer. Maybe Minix does not care about the happiness of their customers? Seems to be the trend now days.

We released a version of firmware that based on Android 7.1.1 for U9-H.

It's like a beta version. There are still some bugs within it.
We do have the plan to update Nougat(7.1.1) version firmware for U9-H.

While we currently are exerting all of our efforts to the new product - NEO X39.

After building a stable firmware for X39, we will back on the work for updating the Nougat firmware for U9-H.

No dubt, very constructive message.

Maybe you are right, not very constructive. Let's move this thread to something more useful. Compare the X39 and the Nvidia Shield. What benefits will the X39 have over the Nvidia Shield? Horsepower? Price? Will the X39 be able to run plex server with transcode capabilities like the nvidia shield can? My U9-H can't. I'm interested in hearing your ideas about this.

Because of the lack of updates for the U9-H this will be my last minix product.

Are you reconsidering?

The Forum is not here to compare MINIX products to others;)

Looking at the benchmark scores it won't even be in the same league as the shield(Which is how old now?). Guess that seals my decision. Based on the fact that they said the price will be more than the U9-H(You can get the shield for same or less). Why would anyone go with that new device when the shield blows it out of the water. Oh well. Bye bye minix. My decision is made on which device to go to next.

Here's my take on things regarding Firmware for Mini-X U9-H:

* The latest stable version is FW008. Based on my own experiences and posts on this forum this version still contains lots of bugs, even for functionality that should be very basic for a Media Player. Sound problems, power on issues, media stops playing by itself for no reason etc.
* Despite the serious bugs, FW008 has been announced as the last Android Marshmallow release (6.x).
* Mini-X has released a Beta version of Android Nougat (7.x). Based on feedback from users, it's in a really bad state. Lots of bugs. Looks more like an attempt to put a Nougat check box in comparison sheets than a serious attempt to bring out usable firmware.
* The Mini-X U9-H Nougat FW is 3 months old. No date communicated for if/when there ever will be a stable version.
* Android is now at version Pie (9.x). So Mini-X is effectively 3 Android generations behind with a stable version.

Conclusion: No stable FW exists. No stable FW on the horizon.
