An odd audio issue

U22-XJ running CoreElec 9.2.5

I encountered an odd audio issue recently. The issue has only shown up on AAC audio. When playing a video, the audio drops out for about 1 second, repeating about every 25 seconds. Very annoying to say the least.

I tried the same files on my U9-H, but there the issue did not show up. So I went through the player settings line by line on the U9-H vs the U22-XJ. The only difference I noticed was the U9-H was set to NOT adjust display refresh rate (off), while the U22-XJ was. Sync playback to display was also off on both units.

So I set the U22-XJ to NOT adjust display refresh rate, and voila, the audio dropout ceased. I am not sure how the refresh rate adjustment is related to the AAC audio dropouts, but it appears it is. Anyway, I solved my AAC audio dropout problem, and have not seen any issues regarding frame rates.

Maybe this will help someone if they are having an audio issue.

very occasionally i experience a very similar issue on u22/coreelec 9.2.5
however, having refresh rate adjustment is a feature i like so I have it enabled for stop/start.
i have also noticed that sometimes, again very occasionally, the gui will get stuck in HDR mode and/or 24Hz

I find that this is normally "fixed" with a reboot or two :sneaky:

Given the current firmware status of the U22 I am just prepared to live with this for the time being as for most of the time running Coreelec its fine

Just one of those things

Good to know OP, thanks.

That would explain why I've never been able to recreate your AAC audio issues then @pusb87 . Like the OP my system doesn't need or require the auto frame rate on start/stop either as I don't experience any stuttering or visual problems to require it enabled.

My devices also sometimes get stuck at the auto frame rate & don't revert back when it has been enabled for testing etc, another reason why I don't bother with it at this time. (Obviously that could potentially change if the TV is upgraded in the future & requires the auto frame rate setting enabled.)

AAC are OK with CoreElec, only fail on Android, in both cases AFR enabled on stop/start
Are you saying that AAC are fine on Android providing AFR is not enabled in Kodi, not that it worked anyway on the U22 . That would be weird !
Did you try the AFR app on U22 , how are AAC in that scenario ?

Good point, it never was fully rectified with Android (yet), but I wouldn't have enabled it had it been fixed anyway as I don't get the judder/stutter with my current TV.

They're not 100% no, but I've never been able to recreate all of the issues with AAC that you've listed under other threads either. (Not that, that surprises me given how different hardware seems to be affected as widely or in so many different ways as things presently stand.)

Nope, never tried the AFR app. I haven't ever required AFR with my current TV as previously discussed.

I also haven't got around to trying CoreELEC with a U22 yet either but have been following its progress under threads where it has been under discussion.

It seems a little redundant for me to install another separate device purely for Kodi alone when the U9-H can obviously do the same task as is, but I am interested in testing it at some point to see how well it all works with the AVR etc. and/or should it help others too. Have just had other things taking priority of late. I purchased another SD card purely to use CoreELEC with the U22 a couple of months ago & it's been sitting in its packaging gathering dust since arrival :rolleyes:.

I run CoreElec for a number of reasons.

1: I really really do not like android. So I do not use any apps, other than Kodi. If I need the internet, I have my Windows 10 computers.
2: Under android I was encountering many playback issues, the vast majority of which disappeared when I moved to CoreElec.
3: What few issues I had running CE on the U9-H, have pretty much all disappeared on the U22-XJ. In fact the only real issue I have encountered is the AAC issue I just wrote about.

To expand a bit on this current AAC issue, it has (so far) only occurred on this one set of files I recently downloaded of an old 1968 TV series. Anyway, mostly a non issue now that I have discovered a fix.

Overall I am quite impressed with the U22-XJ, and with CoreElec. No comment on android, as I have never run the U22-XJ with android.
