CoreELEC on U8K-ULTRA

Yes, you need to pair the remote in CoreELEC settings, Bluetooth section.
Yes that is what i did, only the front side is working in BT the back side is not
In CoreElec (Bluetooth Section) i can see the A3 as Bluetooth Remote, but the keyboard is not working.
Thank you

Another update from me. I found the remote.config file for the Minix A3 (not the A3 Pro), placed it in the root directory and now the A3 is working in IR mode, so that's a plus.

When I tested some video files I ran into a lot of playback issues using CE-22 (nightly builds for both NO and NE. I got a lot of stuttering, freezing and image breakup. The same files played flawlessly on my U22XJ-Max running CE-21 NG internally. The codec in this case was H.264.

I was surprised by these playback issues as I would not have expected issues at all regarding playback. So now the question is why and where is the problem.

My setup is as follows. Full size SD card plugged into a USB card reader, plugged into the USB-A 2.0 port. No, I do NOT use microSD cards.
I have almost 200TB of hard disk storage plugged into the USB-A 3.0 port. This is exactly the same setup I have on the U22XJ-Max, only there the 200TB HDs are plugged in the U22 USB-C port. The U22XJ-Max works without any issues, playback or otherwise.

I have also discovered that rebooting into the SD cards requires power be fully removed from the U8K. If power is not fully removed, the U8K will boot into android and not the SD card.

I have almost 200TB of hard disk storage plugged into the USB-A 3.0 port. Can you transfer Files (in CoreElec) to your Hard drive over Ethernet?
Big Files (more than 5GB) want transfer in my setup. Only over Wifi, and that's half the speed.
I have also discovered that rebooting into the SD cards requires power be fully removed from the U8K. If power is not fully removed, the U8K will boot into android and not the SD card. OK, this is not the case with the build in SDcard reader with CoreElec, (booting to Android or CE is a choice than and working) So the USB2 Slot is the problem (OTG switch?) good to know.
Thank you for your test and feedback.

Another update: Today I tried plugging an NVMe in a USB enclosure directly into the U8K. Booting into CE-22 NE and selecting various 2160p movies to watch, I am happy to report everything ran without issue. The U8K delivered an outstanding image onto my 85" 8K Samsung TV. Subjectively, I would have to say the image was even better than on the U22XJ-Max.

Next I will have to test using CE-22 NO. As well as testing playback with additional files on both versions. I also need to test more using the USB hub set up. Plus I will have to see what I can do to get the A3 BT remote working on BT. IR works, but not that satisfactorily.

I am not sure why my first try with a 1080p file had so many issues. The biggest difference was that the first time the 1080p file was on an 8TB HD, which was connected to a powered USB hub that was also connected to about 200TB of other drives. It should be noted that this drive arrangement has been connected to a U22XJ and then a U22XJ-Max, and worked flawlessly with both of those boxes.

More... After writing the above, I shut down the U8K, removed the NVMe in a USB container and reattached the USB hub, then rebooted the U8K. I have only tried 2160p files, but so far no issues at all.

I mentioned this before: In order to boot into the SD card, the power to the U8K must be completely removed (pull the plug), otherwise it will boot into the internal OS.

CE-22 NO is kernel 5.15 and Kodi Piers.
It's alpha status and give no Dolby Vision support because there is no Android 12 with 5.15 kernel exist yet for this device.

Go with Amlogic-ne, CE-21 until to get best support.

The A3 Pro BLE does not have an IR mode!

Only the power button is IR. All the other buttons are RF.

In fact all keys support infra red with the exception of microphone/airmouse/all keyboard keys which require bluetooth connectivity to work, obviously.

And another update: Been testing now with all sorts of video files from SD to 4K. Everything has been working flawlessly. That made me wonder about that original file which stuttered and froze on the U8K, yet played without issue on the U22XJ-Max. As it was an episode from a TV series, I tried playing other files from that season. Every one I tried stuttered and froze eventually, yet all of them played without issue on the U22XJ.

I should point out that the U8K is running CE-22 NE from an SD card, while the U22XJ is running CE-21.1.1 internally.

The only real issue I am seeing right now is the U8K does not like booting onto the SD card if there are also drives attached, most of the time it will boot the internal android. Unplug the drives and it boots into the SD card and then plug in the external drives and all is good.

I just had a thought. I wonder how my rogue file would play under android on the U8K? I will have to test that.

I previously wrote that I have no dolby vision capable products. Ok, now I have the U8K, but my TV does not support DV, only HDR, HDR10 etc. So normally I avoid downloading DV content unless they are HDR compatable. By mistake I downloaded a DV only file. On my computer it has a nasty magenta/purple cast to it, as it did on the U22XJ. Just for fun I ran it on the U8K (CE-22 NE) and it played just fine. The colors were normal, not badly tinted. So another plus for the U8K.

Hello.
Just to say, I don't have any problems with CoreElec NE 21.x.x nightly booting from SDcard with USB drive attached (USB 3.x) and restart, or booting to Android...

Well as I stated, I am running CE-22 NE (nightly) on a U8K-Ultra. This is a new CE release on very new hardware. Plus I also have about 200TB attached via USB 3.0.

Update: Well I ran my little test of Android vs CE using the files that were problematic on CE-22. They ran fine on the U8K-Ultra when booted into Android. The Android OS is running Kodi 21.0.0, just as my U22XJ-Max unit running CE-21.1.1 and I had no problems with the files on U22XJ. So that says to me that Kodi 21.x is fine and the issue appears to be with Kodi 22. Since there is no stable version of Kodi 22 yet, we must wait for a stable version to be rolled out to see what the playback status is then.

But I also ran into an issue with Android that I find somewhat disturbing. The version of android that shipped installed on my U8K-Ultra created 12 empty directories in the root of EVERY drive attached to it. In the past when I first got into Minix and was running Android as the OS, I never encountered such behavior. That means I now have to do cleanup work on about 15 or so drives. I am not amused and I hope the software guys at Minix can quickly solve this problem. It should NOT happen, especially as it happened without permission.

I'm guessing you may well expect some issues running CE22 nightly, inherently and potentially unstable ;):)

probably not the best idea to be testing with a yet unproven u8k, although it may be fun :devilish:

I agree with you, but as of right now I think there is no Stable Build available for the U8K. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway I am not overly concerned about instability issues. So far that TV Series where I encountered an issue would seem to be limited to that series and only (so far) on season 1. I have been steadily watching movies and TV series for the last couple of weeks and I have to say I have encountered very very few issues.

At present I am running CE-22 NE nightly and patiently waiting for a Stable Build. I am also waiting on CE-22 NO, but will wait for a stable build before giving it another try.

The single biggest issue I have encountered so far has been with the Android OS.

EDIT:
Ok then, I stand corrected. On a hunch I download the latest CE-21 nightly and just discovered there is a U8K dtb file included.
CE-21.1.1 nightly is technically not stable, but it has to be darned close and there is a stable 21.1.1, but have not looked to see if a U8K dtb file is included with it.

Hello,
yes, this folders are a pain.
I think Android does this as default...with no root i am afraid we can not do much against it.
Not shure but there is somthing bad going on to the index table of attached USB-drives.
Have to look at it in more test's.

Calling this creation of a dozen folders on every drive attached to the U8K is way more than a pain. You are being far to kind.
