Download Problem

I'm unable to download in the background. The photos below will help explain my problem. The first photo is from the app One Downloader. The second photo is after I click on the OK and the third photo is from my settings. I am unable to change the Battery Optimization in photo 2. The third photo is my Download Manager in settings and it will not even highlight to change.

I've uninstalled One Downloader.

Since no one seems to have a clue.

Just as a backup, where can I get a copy of the latest firmware to reload? Since I have a Mac, can I do it with a usb stick?

No one has a clue?
I don't think it's a case of people don't have a clue but more along the lines of people expecting you browse the forum first and if you don't find the answers you need then feel free to post.

- It has been advised numerous times on this forum that it is only possible to flash firmware via PC.
- Finding the latest firmware on the forum is just a few clicks once you are in the U22 section under NEO U22 Official Firmware Releases.
- The clue for me regarding Download manager is that other apps are selectable for Optimizing but not Download manager, its the app not the U22.

I did browse the forum before I posted. I searched Download Manager and others, but still found NOTHING!

If I can't get the app to stop being shaded, so I cant change the optimization, how do I change it?

I'm asking for help, because I don't have a clue, so if someone has an answer or a real clue, I'd appreciate some HELP!

Why are you persisting with One Downloader? Have you read the reviews on the Google Play store, lot of users across lots of devices are having the problem you describe, more negative than positive reviews and an overall rating of 2.7 should tell you all you need to know.

Villa has already suggested two alternative downloaders and I can vouch that they work fine on the U22.

I believe your third image is pointing to the built in Download Manager in Android which doesn't allow for optimisation.

I have no idea why any of this optimisation is available as the device does not have a battery!

If you look in Settings, More Settings, Apps & notifications, Advanced, Special app access, Battery optimisation, you will see Battery optimisation is not available for Download Manager.

If you want better control of your downloads install a third-party download manager app as suggested above.
Those two apps I have used for many years! :)

With these apps you can also set the Download Location to external storage.

Unfortunately this is just a fancy way of saying "Keep alive in background" which is a function that I think was introduced in Android 8, could have been 7. Android kills the process after a certain amount of time with non human interaction unless you select Optimization and choose keep alive in background. It saves on power consumption so for the non tech savvy they simply called it Battery Optimization, Power Optimization would have been more apt.

Gotcha, now I understand your dilemma. From what I can see in your pics you are not using the drop down and selecting All Apps like so:

@Villa thanx for your info. Since I'm still new with Android TV, I had no idea that Download Manager is always grayed out for optimization and couldn't be changed. I have learned something.

I'll continue to work on the problem and see if I can fix it or come up with more questions.
