Excluding Teamviewer, what is the best tool to take remote control of the box?

Good find , got it to work :)(y)

Installed on my Windows 10 laptop no problem.
Installed on my 2017 Shield, told me I needed to install another addon for remote control, selected yes to install, then got error message no application available to do the install so didn't install correctly, doing strange things, see sshot from my laptop.
Anyone know if I can download the required additional app and sideload on my shield.

After wrestling with TV for a few hours, I tried Anydesk. Crashes as soon as I do anything. On the latest Android Nougat version of Minix. Uninstalled.

It should have opened a browser window with a link to download the apk. Click that then say you want to install the downloaded file. Hope you have better luck with this than I did.

I didn't get a browser window asking me to download the apk.

I'm guessing it's the way the shield works which is causing the problem.

That's why I was asking for the name of the apk and where I can download it from?

Then I can hopefully side load the apk after downloading it.

But this is the Minix forum, not the shield, better to ask on their support forums surely

Not sure why didnt work for you, works fine here

No did not get this screen? Box is rooted to Marshmallow might try it again Whats the exact app you have to download on Play store as 3 different ones just to make sure they are using the correct one. I have windows 10 downloaded on PC. It just gives option for remote control and file transfer. For remote management you have to sign in on PC app. So need to do this to get full access to Minix? Do parents have to do anything

may not work if your box is rooted ?

I never download from Playstore , I always side load
Quick support 15.4.51
Quick support Add-On AOSP v 8.0.1184

TeamViewer 15.4.445 on Win 10 PC

The 1st time you connect the minix will ask for confirmation of control and you should check the tick box, then to give you the random passowrd.

This is the addon you need to install from the playstore:- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.host.market

I always download from the playstore as you get automatic updates.

As well as installing the above app on your parents box, I assume you have registered a free account with Teamviewer from your laptop which will mean you have a Teamviewer user name (your email address) and password, which you will be asked to input when you run Teamviewer Host on your parents box.

Login to your Teamviewer account on your PC/Laptop.

When you run Teamviewer Host for the first time you will be asked to install another Teamviewer App app, do that.

Then input your Teamviewer login details.

You will be sent an email asking you to add your parents box to your trusted devices, do this.

Then back to your parents box and select assign.

You should now be connected and in control of your parents box.

The benefit of using Host is that having done the above successfully once, your parents box will be in your Teamviewers trusted devices and you will be able to connect remotely without your parents doing anything, other than having the box switched on.

If you have Teamviewer Quick Support App on your parents box, you can connect using that app, just your parents will have to initially be available at their box to run quick support and work with you to make the connection.

If I find a clear set of instructions/video online I will post it.

Thanks for the above

I have the option for login onto my Teamviewer account using the windows application but on the android app that parents download from Play store do they need to create an account and login ? If so then I need to create an account for them as that would be more difficult for them

Cheers

No, they don't need an account.

You/They log into your account on their box, using your login details, as you wish to add their box to your account as a trusted device.

What make and model of android box do they have?

whilst I understand what @Jeffers is providing as information using the teamviwer host application I still think just having quick support on the minix is easier as I belive you dont have to worry about any login / accounts etc, simply fixed user ID and random password .

The benefit of using Teamviewer Host is that FunckyIrishMan can connect to his parents Minix for remote control without them being there or doing anything. Just so long as their Minix is powered on and connected to the internet.

I like using Host as I am an early riser and I can get any updates done before my sister gets up :ROFLMAO:

Got it to work just had parents login to Host using my account and now have control over their Minix as long as they leave it on. So can update accordingly

Thanks for everyones help

Excellent news, well done.

All for free

Don't overuse the remote control, Teamviewer may think you are using it commercially and cut you off.

Teamviewer did it to me, then I had to use their appeals process that takes weeks, after checking my usage they removed the block they have put on me.
