Installed media player and SMB support.

Hi guys.

I tried a few apps that support SMB so I can play content directly from my PC over the network (Kodi, VLC, etc) but none of those activated HDR on my LG OLED CX tv.
I'm guessing the pre-installed media player or file explorer on the box is able to handle HDR 10bit etc but there is a problem... none of those two can see a directory over the network... they can only see local storage (also tried a WD 1tb external HDD and they couldn't find it).

So how can I play HDR movies that are way larger 50-70GB than the on-board 32gb memory storage???

Please help a guy out... thanks a lot!

Both Kodi & VLC are fully capable of processing media encoded in HDR from most sources including external HDDs or via networks. If your TV isn't correctly activating/deactivating the HDR media signal on media start/stop from the U22 the first thing you'll want to check is the display settings to ensure you've configured everything correctly. (Pay particular attention to the HDR policies & ensure Dolby Vision is also disabled.)

Having said that, it is rather odd that you seem to have got the very basic pre-installed apps to process your HDR media from the internal memory when testing but then ran into trouble with the same media with Kodi or VLC over your LAN or from an external HDD. (Have you configured your sources correctly?)

What happens with Kodi or VLC if you attempt to playback the same HDR encoded files from the internal memory that you had success with, with the very basic media player? Same problem or it behaves as expected? (If you see a different behaviour you may then obviously need to troubleshoot your network/network configuration, sources, etc.)

on your LGCX this is the HDMI Ultra Deep Colour Setting.

You need to enable this for the HDMI port your U22 is connected to.

If you connect via HDMI through an AVR you will also need to enable the equivalent option in the AVR .

I have a U22 connected through a Sony AVR to an LGC9 via HDMI and can play similar media files in HDR that you mention from my NAS with no issues using Kodi.

Hi guys!

Thanks for your prompt replies!

@pusb87
yes HDMI 1 where I connect the minix has Ultra Deep Color activated. Still I get no HDR activation from the TV.
Also the strange thing is that I get Dolby Vision from only one of my video files....

@ArcticWolf
I said "I guess" that the pre-installed media player on the box is able to handle HDR etc as I have read on reviews. I haven't tried it because my external HDD is not recognized by the box (NTFS formatted) and the internal memory is too small for my files.

Any ways to keep this sort I installed CoreELEC last night and it perfectly plays all my HDR huge files off the network :D:D:D:D

BUT...the minix remote is not working on CoreELEC hahahah so I had a bit of a problem there.. luckily I had an old logitec small form BT keyb/mouse combo and managed to setup CoreELEC.

Here is my question.
Is there a way to use my LG's remote which has a mic and a motion pointer on the CoreELEC or do I have to buy something else?

Thanks guys!!!

i assume you mean the little IR remote...no that doesnt work but minix A2 lite and A3 do.

to be honest I dont know, but likley to be tricky anyway

@pusb87

I managed to get the original remote controller working from the box in CoreELEC!!!
Using this file https://mega.nz/folder/HskzhZRY#lyIxBd51cCMbbwZMNXkmuA/folder/XttShY4b
It's a repository of all the remote.config files that have been created over the ages for CoreELEC so you can tell people to use it in case they want to make the IR controller working in CoreELEC!

Thanks a lot guys :D
nice one...
however its a kinda blessing in disguise for me that the little IR remote as standard does not control U22 coreelec.

I have a U22 running Coreelec and a T5 running Android TV side by side..
It means i can control the T5 using the IR remote and not intefere with the U22 (apart from the Power button)

The box will recognize exFAT and FAT32 formatted external hard drives. .Try reformatting from NTFS to exFAT and see if your box can read it. I had a similar problem, and resolved it after the exFAT re-format.
