Is flashing supposed to take hours?

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago my U9-H jammed. Simply froze up. Kept freezing up after power reset. I was not even able to get into the recovery mode.
I tried my luck at flashing the firmware today (opted for the CE version 7.1.2) however, it's been 'flashing' 1h44m so far and I'm at 61%.
Is this normal or does this indicate a hardware issue? I saw a guy on youtube flash his minix in under 4 minutes...

Did a quick search on the forum but didn't get any usefull hits but if it's been explaned elsewhere feel free to redirect me.

yes it should take around 4 minutes
 
Kept running it overnight. This morning after 9hours it displayed 100%: download _aml_dtb.
In contrast, in the youtube video, the guy's usb burning tool displayed "download system" for the most part.
Is this linked to the CE firmware?

After that I tried to hit 'stop' but nothing happened. Had to disconnect forcefully.
The system is still fronzen upon boot (no change whatsoever).

Will try official FW008 firmware, if that fails i'm calling time of death :)

are you sure your flashing with the corrrect file, a .img file

either way i would stick with FW008 unless you have a good reason to want android 7

unpacked the zip (contained both a usb burning tool setup & an img file).

I loaded in the img file for the FW008 and after 14 seconds I got:
"7% 0x30201004 UBOOT/disk initialize/send command/error result

Already tried increasing the 'temperature range' in the tool as someone suggested elsewhere on the forum but remained without success.
Going to "try force erase all" option as a final attempt.

Sometimes the actual location of the image you're flashing can affect a successful flash too.

Ensure that you've first moved the FW008 image onto your PCs C drive, then repeat the entire process from step 1 again.

Any changes or still the same issue?

When trying the usb burning tool with the 'force erase all' option it tries formatting the device but after a couple of minutes at 7% it fails with warning: 0x30201006 UBOOT / disk initialize / send command / time out.

I think it's a hardware failure (storage medium).
2 year warranty expired 9 dec 2021 so that's a bummer.
I think it's time to move on to another device, unless you can think of anything else I could try?

No worries.

Flashing can be hit & miss with some systems too, although the U9-H was often one of the easier devices to flash in direct comparison to something like the U22.

Users have reported all sorts of different causes or potential issues that could affect a successful flash. If you've double checked all the usual suspects & you're sure your cables etc. are all fine too then don't immediately write the device off either....

Some users have been unable to flash the device with certain PCs or laptops no matter what they tried. Try another system instead, as you may then be immediately successful ;).
