Judder with Kodi 18.1 and official firmware version Android Nougat

Hi,

I am running this box with the official Android Nougat relase and Kodi 18.1, latest version available form the store.
I am experiencing judder with video playback, particulary 1080p, 24 Fps. I am running the videos from my external HD connected to the box.
I've checked all settings regarding the Sync (droid settings, auto resolution on, hdmi auto adpation). Under Kodi, set the framerate to be adapted to the source (on ON and OFF).
Nevertheless, after a while, the movies are getting "jerky" again. I've checked my projector information screen and it states that the frequency is correct, that is to say 23.97 Fps, or something close to that...
Anybody experiencing similar issues having found a fix?
Can it be an issue of the encoding of the movies (h264, h265)?
Is this an hardware limitation of some kind (video cache, buffer of some sort running out) or simply the boy that doesn't held its promises of smooth playing back up to UHD content?

Thanks. Is this the version you are using yourself to claim it's working fine (I mean the one with Coreelec)?

Using the android firmware, I too had a lot of playback issues on my U9-H. Today I am running my U9-H with CoreElec 9.0.1 firmware (Linux based, not android) and I rarely have any playback issues. In fact, movies that would not playback under android now playback flawlessly with CoreElec.

The only downside would be if you really needed to use android apps other than Kodi.

Thanks!
But using dual boot from the external SD, it shouldn't be a big issue. Or am I missing something?

Thanks. May I please ask you what your playback settings are, with Kodi? Do you use a constant 60Hz or do you allow the frequency to be adpted according to the content of what your content is.
The reason why I'm asking, is that I sometimes get smooth playback with 24Hz and then, all of a sudden, it gets laggy and it is like the movie is in fast motion for a second or two, trying to catch up.
Anybody does also play movie from an exsternal drive connected to USB and is able to get smooth playback?

Reading further, I think I might have found the cause of the issue. It is probably related to h264 not being hardware decoded and that the box is not powerful enough to do it software based. Does Libreelec or Coreelec perform better in this regards?

I don't think so. U9-H is able to decode 4K HDR movies up to 60Hz with no stutters/judders.

Yes, frequency must be adapted.

I can watch all my movies whatever the frequency (23.976 to 60 Hz), whatever the codec (Xvid, H264, H265).

OK, thanks for the answer. Then I simply don't know what is the issue with mine. I will try CoreElec and see if this gets better.

Or maybe start with winping the device cache and reboot. Because it seemed to work smoother in the past ;-)

@maxlam

as @Skynet has allready confirmed the u9-h should have no problems with the file types you have mentioned.

Try these settings >>

which work perfectly for u9-h connected to a TV which accepts a range of different frame rates .

You indicate you are using a projector , not sure if it makes a difference...if in doubt connect your u9 to a TV to test.

Many thanks!
Is this the CoreElec version and 18.1?
What does the HQ scaler option allow. because default settings is 20% on mine?
With the default firmware for Android 7, there is also only one setting for "HDMI self adaptation", which is on or off

Glitches and judder are effectively gone.
