Kodi v18 Playback Issues on Minux U1 and U9-H

I have an issue with some files that play fine in version 17.6 KODI or XMBC versions, but have issues in any version of KODI 18 including 18.4

After 10-20 mins the playback will start playing in fast forwarding and then starts looking choppy and slow mo but audio just keeps going as normal, if I press back on remote then it all goes back to normal and in sync until another 10-20ins where it repeats itself.

I was having same issues on U1 box so got this box to try.

I have tried clean installs of v18 and also upgrades from v17.6 (working)

Anyone had similar issues with these boxes and how to resolve, boxes running on stock latest firmware.

Cheers

Hi,

Network-Ethernet
Streaming-Local

All files reside on a NAS

Both boxes on latest stock roms as suggested by yourself

Currently using new box

U9-H Firmware Build - U9-H FW008 20180209

Playback has issues with a lot of older files it seems, but if I play them in 17.6 there fine!

Hum ok.

I dont have any problems with latest Kodi or other any versions.

I also use a Kodi NAS server (sql) gigabit.

Maybe you have some particular issues with older files but i think it is normal....
Kodi new versions (kodi 18 and kodi 19 ) are optimized for newer files (Mkv, 4k,.... etc).

I have some older files but i dont have problems, but in the past i had (avi or mpeg, SD resolutions)...
If i have a particular issue with a file i try to find other file who works good.

You have the option to downgrade to kodi 17 but i advice you using kodi 18.

NOTE:
You are using what is recommended:
Streaming from local (NAS i think) and ethernet.

I dont think you dont need to factory reset your router but last resort you can do it.
I also think you have u9h and u1 working well with other files (mkv for example).

@jpskiller

as the files are not huge can you provide a link to a sharing site where i could download one of them to try, I have u1 and U9 which have both kodi 17.6 and kodi 18.2 installed.

They do look like "old" encodes

@notrui2 - NAS box connected via Virgin router and this is a new router but still same issue, yes other file type and new files play well on both boxes, just seems to be older at the moment, I do have a lot of large collections of TV shows in older formats as well as films, I find it strange how they play fine in 17. but not anything newer.

@pusb87 - can you recommend a site I can share the files to, PM me

It is not strange.
I guess new kodi (18 for example) prioritizes new formats and some older formats works worst....
This is a case of "evolution" and we have to choose , continue with older kodi (17 for example) or upgrade to newer ones.

You have two minix boxes, take a look at this:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/any-knowledgeable-kodi-mysql-users-please.1274/

Even for one client (minix for example) is great ☺

Anyway i am from time with the beginning of XBMC, now new name kodi.

I tested almost XBMC and now kodi versions ☺ (if not all ☺)

In my opinion Kodi is the best media player ever and the media player who works better.

@notrui2 so is yours original Xbox still alive?Mine is half dead?
?.
I gave the device a time ago to a friend of mine and in that time was working and i think now it is working as well.
He uses now a original XBOX in a arcade machine , he done everything.
I dont know if he uses mine Xbox.
As older machines i have as "decoration mode" my zx spectrum 48k ( and that is my first "PC") . ☺

Fairly well covered already regarding your files with the older methods of encoding. Even in Kodi 17.x I occasionally experienced issues with older .AVI files of my rips of older or harder to find movies that just aren't available in a more modern format.

One thing you can try is remuxing the files with an excellent tool called MKVToolNIX. It will essentially demux the files from .AVI & remux them into an .MKV container. Very simple to use & if we're talking about movie/media files less than 1 GB in size it'll remux them for you in seconds. (Just use the default settings once installed on your PC & let the program handle the rest ;).)

It's not a guarantee but I've found that it has solved the problem completely with a large percentage of files I experienced these issues with, or it's minimised the problems afterwards :).

Give it a try & see how it pans out :).

@jpskiller like @pusb87 suggested install kodi fork 17.6 WBMC and kodi 18.4 to have two separate kodi versions. Also you can visit kodi forum and find or post a question how kodi 18.4 works with avi xvid files. If kodi 17.6 works for you fine you don't have to upgrade to kodi 18.4. if the avi xvid files really matters to you.

I have posted in KODI forums but not replies as yet

I just tried with many SD Xvid movies (23.976, 25 FPS) and it's working fine with my U9, but i use CoreElec with Kodi 17.3 version.
So it's not a hardware issue.

I had same problem with leia and android 6.x on my minix u9. Upgraded os to android 7.1.2 and that solved the issue but gained others. CoreElec is another that should work according to forums. Wish there would be more help from the minix team with these issues but with latest firmware release almost a year ago it seems theyve given up on u9-h. BTW kodi works on other android devices with marshmellow and nougat soo i would say its a fw build issue and since it works with other os on u9-h its not hardware.

Agreed, this is definitely an issue with Kodi itself based on the issues I've had with Xvid. (The same files that persistently de-synch/jump in Kodi play perfectly from MX or VLC on the U9-H as examples.). ANY other file put through Kodi also plays perfectly as well!! It just struggles with certain Xvid files.

It's not hardware or firmware, it's a Kodi issue or an issue with how Kodi handles very old Xvid files.

but If it works on CoreElec and Community Edition ROM for NEO U9-H - Android 7.1.2 Nougat is it then a kodi issue. I would say that its an firmware issue but then again Im not a Trusted helper :p

Kodi 18 has issues with those files also in the U1 which has a different firmware. Playing issues with Xvid files has been long debated on Kodi Forum and not only for version 18, and obviously not Minix boxes related.
