MINIX NEO U22-XJ Where to buy?

The u22 xj is back on Amazon but I am waiting until it is on prime. Easier to return if there is a problem and no restocking fee. No shipping charge either.

Unfortunately, you may be waiting a while.
It is impossible to predict when Amazon will begin accepting into their warehouse and selling new non-essential products again.

A lot of what is available on Lazada is shipped directly from China. I am not sure where the U22-XJ is manufactured, but I assumed either Hong Kong or mainland China. That is why I was surprised to not see it listed.

The only authorised store on minix website in China that will actually ship one to Thailand is Ali Express.
I ordered mine on the 31st March and now 25 days later, despite numerous messages to the shop and Thai postal system, the item is tracked as far as Singapore, then shipped to Thailand on the 8th April. Now it cannot be located anywhere.
Very frustrating.

The U22 xj is now on Amazon Prime so I ordered it today. Arriving 5/1-5/6.

LOL. I won't deal with Aliexpress. They do not have the same deal with customs as Lazada do. When I order something originating in China, the price is all inclusive with delivery to my door, customs clearance included.

I actually asked Aliexpress about customs clearance and they never bothered to respond. So I will not use them.

Normally I would just go to Fortune Mall and buy minix products there, but right now nothing is open.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have never seen any IT store in Chiang Mai that sells Minix. I purchased my U9 from Lazada. In fact I am now reliabily informed that Minix Hong Kong no longer supply to any outlet in Thailand. And that includes the two sites shown on their "Where to buy " listings. I contacted both outlets and they confirmed that they would not be able to stock the U22.

I suppose it is a blessing in disguise that it is unavailavble, considering the numerous different problems that some purchasers seem to be experiencing. After so many loyal years to Minix, I may well have to look for an alternative as good as the Minix.

I suspect the lack of availability in Thailand is more due to a fairly recent government requirement that all media boxes be "approved" before they can be sold. An extremely misguided attempt to "protect" Thailand's official streaming services.

The issues you are talking about are just the teething problems of a new product. The U9-H had exactly the same kinds of issues, but slowly over time, all (well most, anyway), were corrected with firmware updates. I expect the U22-XJ will be no different. Give it 6 months and I would expect it to be quite stable.

I dropped android a while back and have been running CoreELEC on all my minix boxes. Far far more stable than androind. CoreELEC is Linux based. The only downside is if you want/need to run any android apps. I only use my minix boxes for playing content that resides on my local hard drives, so for that CoreELEC is more than good enough.

CoreELEC is basically just a way of running Kodi without all the android baggage, plus it is optimized for Amlogic devices. The current version of CoreELEC is running Kodi 18.6. If you are interested, there is a huge thread under custom roms in the U9-H forum.

Many thanks for your time and explanation of Core Elec. I have switched to a new android box for the time being. Amazingly fast and responsive. So, I will that out for a while.
Thanks for the heads up on approved android boxes being accepted by Thailand. Although I find their ruling somewhat strange when there are so many boxes for sale on Lazada. I wonder if they are all approved. Never mind.

HI Allmankind

I thought it would be courteous to update you on my Ali Express experience. Amazingly enough, the item cleared customs on the 29th, some 22 days after it arrived in Thailand. And the item is now at the local delivery office, awaiting delivery. I will let the forum know how it goes, once I have tried their new FOTA update V 3.

Regards

Thanks for the update. Just curious, did customs charge you duty, or is it like Lazada where the price you pay is the price delivered to your door?

But 22 days is a long time in customs. Are you sure customs had it for 22 days? With Lazada items usually clear customs in a day or two.
If customs did not charge you duty, then I might look into ordering from Ali Express.

Apologies if my post was unclear. As I stated, it arrived in Thailand on the 8th via Singapore, according to Singapore post, who had a cleared receipt. But it was not put into the Thai postal system, whereby they scan the barcode tracking number, until the 28th.

It was then cleared by customs on the 29th. That is where the 22 days comes from.It then arrived at Lamphun, some 30 kms away on the evening of the 30th. Being a public holiday today, it is still there. Tomorrow is not a public holiday and so it should be here tomorrow in Chiang Mai.

Normally, when I have ordered goods from overseas and they have been shown as " cleared at customs", the items have arrived without any duty to pay.
But even if they do charge,it is only 7% vat, unless it is a high value item that is deemed cheaper than those sold in Thailand.
I will let you know, after it arrives.
Hope that answers your query.

Interesting that as Amazon UK is fully back "in stock" (as opposed to "just 14 units" a week ago), the price has gone up from £136/€155/$165 to £150/€170$182.

It's the same for all sorts of stuff on Amazon.

I recently bought a mini soundbar. At it's cheapest it was around £39.99. I bought it for £45.99. I missed the cheaper deal! Now it's priced at £54.99 and it's currently out of stock.

I have stuff in my Basket that daily is not available, then it is. The prices are dropping and increasing daily too!

FYI for anyone not in the know. There is a browser add-on called Keepa which keeps track of Amazon price trends.

The price before didn't include shipping fee because we had to ship directly to customers from overseas (additional cost).
The price now includes shipping fee because we can use Amazon's fulfillment services again.
So, it hasn't gone up. It's just written differently now. Same total price.

e.g. before £136 + shipping fee ...... now £150 includes free shipping
