MINIX's 8K Media Hub is on its way

Received my 8K media hub yesterday afternoon and I'm in the process of setting it up. I have some questions:
1.) How do I get the smb shares on my NAS to be recognized by Kodi - perhaps this question belongs in a different forum.*
2.) The keyboard on the remote doesn't light up. Did I order the wrong remote?
3.) Can the home screen / skin be changed (this is on me as I haven't looked into this at all - I'm taking the easy way out and asking first).

That's all for now. I'm really amazed at the speed with which FedEx delivered a package from Hong Kong to a little village north of Toronto.

* Got this to work. From ChatGPT
If you experience connection issues, you may need to enable SMBv1 or adjust your SMB client settings in KODI. Go to:
  • Settings -> Services -> SMB Client.
  • Set "Maximum protocol version" to SMBv1 or leave it as SMBv3 depending on your NAS configuration.
Note: I set the "Minimum protocol version" to SMBv1 and the "Maximum protocol version" to SMBv3.

Hi,

Never use Smbv1, this old protocol is not secure anymore.
Select Smbv2 or Smbv3.
Create an account in nas side (ex: Kodi / password)
Connect U8k Kodi with this account.
Select Nas ip and enter ids.

Minix U8K-Ultra is up and running (and waiting for FEL-fix news ;)).

Right now the device support items like others with S5, S928X-J with CoreELEC:
up to DV profile 5, 7 (MEL), 8
up to HDR10+
up to 8k/60Hz, h265, AV1, VP9
HBR audio like Dolby Atmos, DTS-MA,...

I don't want to build up too much hype.
Amlogic told us there will be a patch for FEL =/= official FEL support

I must clarify this.

I don't know if other devices have HDCP1.4+HDCP2.2/2.3+Widevine L1+PlayReady SL3000,
and we have them all since day 1 of product launch.
I think these are necessary for a future-proof device, alongside with 8GB/128GB config.
 
Out of curiosity, does anyone have a feel for the timeline for shipping after an order is placed? Presumably, orders are filled in the order they are placed (placed mine Sept. 2) so I do expect to have to wait until my order pops to the top of the list. FWF, I'm located in the south-east US.

wondering the same as glindbeck and MoMD What is the turnaround time of ordering the U8K-Ultra and when it ships. Also located in the southeast US also Can you say why you chose to not make the A3 pro remote backlit?
 
This is an update to my previous message. Received word, via the Fedex app on my phone, that Minix shipped my box overnight. It's currently with Fedex in Kowloon. So, if my experience is typical, it appears the current lead time between placing an order and it being shipped is about 20-21 days. I have not received any emails from Minix regarding the shipment at this point. As Fedex appears to be the preferred shipper (others have mentioned Fedex in their posts), having the app might not be a bad thing as Fedex is really good at keeping the information up to date regarding your shipments. Of course, your mileage may vary but this has been my experience.

I placed my order September 6-7, and got my FedEx notification this morning. I'm in Canada. But I know of someone else in Canada who placed their order a week after me and received their unit a week ago.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting and using this device.

I placed my pre-order on August 28, 2024. Very early this morning September 30th, 2024, I received a shipping notification that my unit was on the way to the carrier. About 30 minutes later I got another email saying that my order had been shipped. It is reported to be delivered by Amazon Logistics Services and I should have it on Thursday, October 3rd. I'm in Southeast USA

Hello,
is there an HowTo for booting CoreElec from SDcard? (which CoreElec version?)
Does the Minix remote work? (or is there an remote.conf / .hwdb for A3 BT remote?)
