Great, thank you so much. But I have a problem to update with Amlogic USB Burning Tool v2.2.0 it costs me blood and sweat that the USB C recognizes me, also lately it failed with the 4 computers from different times that I have. Is it expected to get an OTA? Thank you.

Thank you very much to both of you for your interest, as always, showing your selfless help in the forum. I must clarify one thing regarding the problem of manual update as I have said from the beginning it has been a thankless task that has robbed me of a lot of time and effort. Above all I want to make it clear that it is not due to ignorance or misuse since I have had other MInix and this is certainly the worst for manual update. With the Minix Neo U1 for example I have installed several times official and custom Rom about 20 more or less. Even in this U22-XJ I have not had a big problem to make Backup with TWRP or install Corelec. It is true that the clip-recovery thing seems like a step back from the U1 that just press the power button. In short, I am sure that my device was defective to perform the manual installation. But since I don't feel like paperwork or shipping since otherwise it works well for me. Ignoring the problems known and suffered by all, which I can understand. Now what I do not understand is the fix that was given to certain problems of certain clients by removing the root switch to harm others, it is as if a third gear does not fit in a car and you solve it by removing it. And now for those of us who have had the misfortune that our device is defective when it comes to manual flax, we are discriminated against by not allowing us an OTA. No John I am not very happy with the management of Minix in this latest V005 update, not to mention other problems that I have had with the brightness in Corelec after V005 but all that is acceptable, now the OTA not, since I have no mode any to install manually right now.
Thank you very much.

I think it's all quite fair: the majority of users don't need root and are likely the less technically savvy, while users that need root will be both a minority and you would think more technically inclined. Thus it seems logical that Minix would offer OTA to the former rather than the latter.

I'll probably go for root myself (at least for AdAway), and if that requires USB Burning Tool, so be it; it's not like it's a massive task, and I already flashed my U22 by USB while the OTA was being fixed. I mean, I'm not exactly an expert, so if I can manage, you'd think that it would be within the chords of any user requiring root.

From a practical point of view, I'm not sure how Minix would be able to issue 2 distinct OTA updates for the same product depending on a variation of the firmware currently installed, or indeed if this would be at all possible.

Will installing this rooted version will wipe the box clean or update what's already installed?

EDIT: Quote from the instructions:
WARNING: Manually installing the firmware will erase all saved data, content and settings on your MINIX NEO U22-XJ. Please backup those important files on the device.

It seems to me that you have not understood that my update tool does not work for me and what I am asking for is an alternative like the one proposed by Villa. And of course I have the right to complain and I consider it fair even if it is a minority. In addition, the root switch was one of the attractions that decided me to buy it.

I have a way for you to install this root ROM and keep your data. You will need an SD Card that goes into the U22 and a PC to format it to FAT32, let me know if you have this and I will help. All I ask is a little less hostility towards Minix as they really are trying to please the masses. Even the most expensive comptition box does not offer what you are expecting, they offer the standard OTA and for root a seperate developer image that needs to be flashed.

Ok I'll take few deep breaths. I have in hand what you ask... What's next?

I am also interested in this method and I have both the SD card and PC to format
Thanks

Hello Marti. I don't know if it's the translator's fault, but you don't seem to understand that the real problem is that I can't manually flax with the U22 because currently the tool doesn't recognize the U22's usb-c. Since with the first manual flax I did for the V004 before the OTA late one night to achieve it, after using a minipc, a desktop computer and two laptops. I did it with an old Toshiba notebook, after that I could only do one more flax. And I assure you that I know how to do it because I have followed all the instructions to the letter and also this same manual flax in the U1 barely takes me 15 minutes. I did not say anything before because I naively thought that it would be fixed with an update but it is clear that it is a defect of the box.
As for what you call "hostility towards Minix" is not such I am simply conveying my discontent and frustration. And it is also justifiable because ignoring the U1 I had a Neo X8-H that stopped working, watching a YouTube video, with just one year of life. But despite that I have returned to buy Minix products that tend to be more expensive than the rest thinking about the quality of their components. And then you get a box that doesn't allow you to flax Rom, I think it's understandable that I'm upset. After what happened before and seeing that yesterday no one from Minix will show interest in my problem.
With this I think your questions are answered. As you can see if I have enough PCs.
Thank you very much.
