Problems with USB ports on Minix U9-H

I bought Minix X8-H+ in 2015. That was first Android TV box in my life. His A2 Lite Air Mouse ("OK" button) stop working after a few months, but Minix X8-H+ Box worked flawlessly for about next 3 years. 2018. I gave a friend that Box, and bought myself a Minix U9-H.

From the beginning I had problems with the Air Mouse(s). Cursor movement on the screen is brokenly, chopped, jerky, tensely... (I don't know the right English word). It is working OK for 5 or 20 minutes, perhaps an hour, and then the trouble starts... After that, some time it is working OK again... Sometimes a small LED light on the Air Mouse iz blinking - indicating that the RF signal with USB receiver iz lost. Etc... Torture.

I even don't remember what everything I've been trying. Restoring factory settings... Changing 3 USB ports... Buying 2 new Air Mouses (next to old 2 that I already had, who have working well on the old Minix X8-H+)... Buying that USB tool for measuring Voltage... Changing radio channels on my Wi-Fi router... Turning off all smartphones, tablet, laptop in my house... Changing LED bulbs in the room... Changing new LED bulbs with CFL bulbs... Changing the frequency of the LG TV screen... Changing position of Minix Box... Changing position of some furniture with metal parts... Placing 50cm USB extension cable between Minix and mouse receiver...

Nothing helped. For example, I turn off all the LED bulbs in the house, while the mouse is working normally, and then after an hour or two problems start again. In the end I gave up. I bought some cheap Tanix TV Box and put everything on it. On Minix I had left only Kodi - I let the some movie go with 2-3 clicks on the D-pad buttons and don't need the Air Mouse for next 2 hours.

3 days ago, I accidentally see in Minix's cardboard box that micro USB to female USB adapter-cable. I put that adapter-cable into OTG micro USB port, Air Mouse receiver in it and...

BINGO! EVERYTHING WORKS!

Maybe the Air Mouse now works 95% of the way how worked on the old Minix X8-H+, but this is 10 times better than when the receiver was involved in 3 standard USB ports. I'm happy now. I can fully activate Minix Box and sell or give someone Tanix Box. And now I am 100% sure that the problem is in Minix Box, in its USB ports or wherever. So here I'm asking...

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is this perhaps a software or probably a hardware problem? Does anyone know a solution how to fix 3 standard USB ports on my Minix U9-H? Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Did you also make sure you didn't have any pets in the room? Especially cats!!! (I'm just kidding ;)!!)

Have you tried connecting an external HDD or a USB flash drive to the three USB ports?

How do they behave? Are data transfer rates acceptable? Are you able to stream movie files unbroken/without buffering as well , for example?

That would be the easiest & quickest way to determine if there is an issue with the USB ports, or not.

You mentioned a LED flashing on your A3. Which LED is it? (The LED on the far left or the far right?). I would venture it's the LED on the far right which would indicate the mic is constantly live whilst the LED is flashing.)

(MEOW!! ;))

For example...

- 30 Mbps (4K, 60 fps, 1GB, 5 minutes duration) MKV video iz playing normally from very old USB 2.0 stick.
- Total Commander copies the same MKV file (1GB) from an external HD to internal memory for about 40-45 seconds. This is about 200 Mbit/sec. While the file is copied, "USB tool" is measuring 5V and about 0,4-0,5 A.

So, everything looks normally... But Air Mouses are not working properly. :)

- 2 August PCR450 Air Mouses
- PROBOX2 Remote+ Wireless Fly Mouse
- Mini Fly G20A Air Mouse

A2 Lite came with the purchase of Minix X8-H+ in 2015. Very quickly it has stopped working and I don't have it for a long time. After that I never bought any Minix mouse.

Can you please confirm the firmware version of your U9-H for a start? (Ideally it should be at FW008. (Go to Settings -> About -> scroll down for the build details.))

Apologies, I did originally read you mentioned the A2 Lite but I was talking & typing, & got sidetracked to an A3. (Multitasking fail ;).)

So, you no longer have an airmouse optimised for use with your U9-H? Just a collection of air mice/remotes for other devices? (I'm not saying these other devices shouldn't work, there's just no guarantees as to just how well they might work in conjunction with a U9-H although you'd generally expect the basic functions to operate normally.). It's very odd that the dongle suddenly appears to have improved function when connected via the OTG -> USB adapter too. (Could only speculate some sort of contact issue between the standard USB ports vs the OTG adapter? Do the dongles physically fit better into the OTG adapter?)

Otherwise, all other indications are that the USB ports themselves on your U9-H are also functioning normally too :).

When did you try the factory reset of the U9-H? Was that some time ago or recently? (May just be worth trying another.)

Ideally, a replacement A2 Lite, A3 or the new backlit versions of both devices optimised for use with MINIX products would be the best option. However, I can certainly understand you trying to repurpose your existing collection of remotes/air mice with your U9-H.

Most obviously buy the U9-H bundled with an A2 Lite/A3 or use the basic IR remote included with the device. All you can really do is wait to see if any other members respond who have attempted using the same remotes you currently are, & see what input they have if any!! (Although, how long you could be waiting is anyone's guess, it could be an hour or weeks!!)

Subject to determining your U9-H's current firmware version..... IMVHO, order a new A2 Lite/A3, or the new backlit versions, & hopefully you'll have a better experience.

Yes, it has latest Marshmallow S912-v008-20180209, from the first day.

I have 4 Air Mouses. 2 of them are new. 2 of them are old, but correct, they are working OK with my old Minix X8-H+.

- All 4 mouses are now working OK on my second TV Box (Tanix).
- All 4 mouses are now working OK on my Minix U9-H, but if I put them in OTG port.
- All 4 mouses are not working properly if I put them in any of 3 standard USB ports on Minix U9-H.

The only correct conclusion is that there is something wrong with the USB ports on Minix. And yet, at the same time, on the same ports - USB stick, external HD, Logitech C525 webcam is working OK.

Strange situation!

I have purchased Minix U9-H in May-June 2018. In the next few months, my hair is grizzled while I'm attempting to make mouse to work normally.
This forum did not work at that time.

Then I bought another TV Box, and accidentally found out, 3 days ago, that the air mouse works in OTG port. Now, after a year and a half, I have a functional Minix Box... well, 99% functional. I don't need OTG port for something else. But I'd like that also 3 standard USB ports are working normally.
