Some movie files not showing up on a 6 tb drive..they work on other drives

Hey guys!

I bought a new 6 TB WD HD and suddenly some of the movies aren't showing up with my u9/Kodi. I click on the movie folder and instead of the file being in it, its just 3 dots (...).
I would guess i put 15 movies on it so far and around half are doing this...

I moved one of the movies off that drive and onto my 4 TB WD and the movie shows up and plays fine.

-I've been using Minix's for years and have 6 Hard Drives full of content, all the drives are 4TB and this is my first 6TB - could this be the issue?

Am i missing something simple here?

I installed VLC to see if it was a Kodi issue and each folder says "directory is empty" instead of having the movie inside of it.

Can you see them ( and play them ) just using Kodi's file manager rather than in your movie video library ?

I cannot, i just tried and went through file manager. Very weird its half the movies...
I move them off this 6 TB and they work fine.

You say here " suddenly"...does that mean that they did show up previously ?
Whhoops sorry - the movies were working on the other drives - i moved them to the 6 TB and now i can't see half of them.
I also tried VLC and it can't see the files either.

Is the USB power input requirement of the 6TB external HDD the same as the 4TB drives?
Are the external HDDs self-powered or drawing power from the NEO U9-H?
It's possible there's insufficient power for the 6TB external HDD.

@Paraprop
I use NAS instead of usb but you should be able to view the movies in a file browser as @pusb87 also said.

If you use kodi there is a option in the top of the screen to search for local database: (movies for example) , you can try that also
This works if you add sources for your movies/tv shows and have your library database up to date.

Make sure you have enough power, as @MINIX - John said for your hdd .

Your movies should be like this: (recommemded)
movie folder/movie.file

In kodi or in a file manager do this:
View the files, Sort by name (maybe it is easier for you to find a particular movie).

I use 8TB HD drives without any issues, so I doubt it is your 6TB drive.

When I attach HDs to my U9-H, everything is connected through a powered HUB. I use the powered HUB for attaching multiple portable USB drives. I also use a powered SATA dock for bare desktop drives. The SATA dock USB out is plugged into the powered hub, and the HUB is attached to the U9-H via a single USB cable. I have had as much as 22TB of HDs plugged in at one time and the U9-H had no problems accessing and playing the movies/TV shows on them.

Couple of questions:
- how is the 6TB drive powered?
- are all of the "missing" files of the same type, or are they multiple file types (ie: .avi, .mkv, etc).
- if all are of one file type, what is that file type?
- if you attach the 6TB to your computer, can you see and play the files on your computer ?
- do any of these files have a "." (dot) prefix?
- what file system are you using on the 6TB? (NTFS, exFAT, FAT32)

Thank you for the suggestion and it made sense as i use the same 2 power cords all my HD's (one kept by my PC and one at the TV). I tried the bigger power cord that came with the 6 TB and its the same result. All the movies have the folder names, but over half have TWO dots (..) inside of the folder and not the movie. Above i said they have 3 dots, but its 2 dots...

-Its power like all my WD HD's are powered - the power cord that came with it.
-all the missing files are mkv, but all the files i can see are also mkv :) - again i move the folder off that drive i can see it fine.
-i hook up the drive to my PC and yes all the files are there and can be played.
-none of the files start with a (.)
-the file system is exfat....bingo as i type this: all my other drives are ntfs. This is likely the issue and why i posted here...amazing group! Safe to assume this is the issue?

2 dots in kodi is also the path to the folder above the folder where you are now , what happens when you click on the two dots ?

I think i understand what you are saying.
Normaly kodi handles very well a file like that (when you update the library), but if kodi don´t know what file you have it does not appear in your movies.

Try NTFS instead of exFat.

In order to search :

You have in my opinion one of the best file explorer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=pt_PT

Kodi 18.4 seach methods you can have (kodi library database must be up to date)
Image2.jpg

Image4.jpg
Picture 1 - Search local library (insert the movie name you think you have)

Picture 2 - sort by title, this way you can find more easily your movies (that movie you think you must have)

exFat Neo U9-H recognize but is better to format to NTFS.I think that 4TB hard disk will work only powered from usb port if not i can use Y cable because i connect two external hard disks with 1TB each one in separate usb port and works only from usb ports in Neo U9-H.

I'll let everyone know what happens when i format it to NTFS. I'm transfering all the movies on this drive to another drive. It's been 3 hours and only 13% done- this is going to take a while!

@allmankind i'm thinking too buy 4TB external hard disk 2,5 inch for Neo U9-H.Will it work only powered from usb port in Neo U9-H or do i need HUB?

Likely it will, so long as it is the ONLY portable USB drive you have attached to the U9-H. But it will also depend on how much power the drive needs to operate. The U9-H cannot supply unlimited power, there are limits. Perhaps someone else can tell you what those limits are.

I have run a single 2TB portable USB drive attached to a U9-H without issues. But when I attached 2 drives, it was VERY hit and miss as to what would work or not.

Well I hope the problem is related to the file system. That would make an easy fix.

Yes, moving TB of data from one HD to another is very time consuming. I usually start such large operations before I go to sleep, and hope it's finished when I get up in the morning. Time for the computer industry to get a handle on moving large quantities of data in a much shorted amount of time.

I'm shocked how long it taking - its been 24 hours and about 80%.
