U9-H struggling with SiliconDust HD content

Hi All,

Newly purchased U9-H unit, updated to 008 firmware using update app. Unit connected to 1Gbps ethernet. HDHomeRun tuner and Emby server (as BSD jail) on same switch and same IP subnet. (Network is dual stack IPv4/v6; devices are on same subnet. HDHomeRun is only IPv4 at present, anyway.).

I've searched the forums (and other places) and haven't managed to find anything similar to the problem I'm having. I've recently invested in a U9-H, but it struggles with HD content from terrestrial TV here in the UK. Not 4K, plain 1080i or 1080p. Audio is fine but the video seems to freeze for a few frames every couple of seconds, which makes programmes almost unwatchable (as in "I'm going to scratch my eyes out with annoyance" rather than "I can't see a picture") .
I'm wondering if there's an "obvious" setting or similar I've missed that could cause this as the U9-H is not low on horsepower!

The symptoms are worst when streaming directly from my SiliconDust HDHomeRun Connect Quatro, whether using the HDHomeRun app or using VLC player to select the relevant stream. I need this direct streaming "mode" to work perfectly to enable me to buy a nice new dumb monitor instead of a "smart" TV (with lower optical specs for the price), *whilst* not annoying my wife.

A possible clue: I also use Emby for recordings; if I view from the Emby for TV app (or the "normal" Emby android app) Emby does transcoding on the fly with the reason "container not supported". Emby transcodes to H264 video / AAC stereo claiming that the original media has an unsupported container (mpegts). The video bitrate is only 5.14Mbps and the server transcoding stays ahead of the client; the U9-H is still a bit jerky when starting, but usually settles down. I haven't yet tested the U9-H with Emby addons for Kodi as I have no experience with Kodi and I wanted to get the other layers working first.

All constructive advice appreciated.

Regards,
Dave.

I would use either Kodi (by the UPNP function you should find your share folders), or Mx Player with the HW or HW+ enabled setting.

Minix doesn't need any kind of transcode since it can play anything.

I watch 4K HDR files with Atmos or DTSX this way (UPNP server-Kodi, without a single sutter)

Thanks for your response, but I don't seem to be making any signficant progress. It looks like I'll be returning the unit, somewhat reluctantly.
