Will the NEO U22-XJ receive Android security patch updates?

I'm thinking about buying a new Android box. I currently have the U9-H and I really love it, except for the fact that the Android security patch level never got updated. In the latest firmware it's still on August 2016 I think, which means there are a lot of unpatched vulnerabilities present in it. So I don't feel very comfortable to go online with it. If I remember correctly, the Neo U1 also didn't receive any security updates.

So my question is, will the Neo U22-XJ receive Android security updates every now and then? Just to be clear, I'm NOT talking about Android version updates. I don't really care about having the latest Android version, but I DO care about security.

Security patches are rolled out by Google to certified OEM's, so for the U22 I doubt it very much, for the T5 which is Google certified it remains to be seen.

If you are concerned about security there is only really one way to go and that is with a more expensive competitor box, with that said their last security patch was November 2019 which is seven months ago.

On a personal note I use my phone which receives the security patch updates for everything where security is a concern and my Minix boxes for entertainment only, ie music and video.

I appreciate the honest answer, thanks! I know which competitor device you're talking about, but I've always been happy about my Minix products so far, so for now I think I will stick with Minix. :) I'll look into the T5. I haven't used Android TV before, but I think that box is more than powerful enough for what I need. So if it will also receive some updates in regards to security in the future, then it might be a good choice for me.

I agree that the security aspect on a tv box is not as important as it is for smartphones, but it should still at least get some attention in my opinion, it still matters.

I also use U22-XJ (and minix android devices) for entertainment only.

If you are going to use a android box device for more (example web browsing ) then you should only use trusted websites.

T5 is a good device and android OS is very user friendly ?.
