i ask the question on kodi forum why i don't get true hd and dts hd in android in this box:
the answer from kodi developer: Because the box android firmware is broken and what was sold to you has major flaws ... return it if you can.
to return it is's to late i think... minix when we gonna get finally a stable firmware :(

this is from the forum:

i have a minix u9 tv box.(android 6)
when i buy it is has kodi 17.3 installed.
i had the options in setting true hd and dts hd.(but it has some problems for playback)
now it is update to 17.6 and i try also the 18 beta versions
but on this version the option true hd an dts hd are juist gone (only dts and dolby digital)

when i use coreelec (linux based kodi os for this box) i have all options and works just fine.
why kodi don't support true hd and dts hd on this android box

The latest FW008 firmware for the U9-H is extremely stable, (& it was issued quite some time ago) :). Are you updated to this latest firmware? Double check ;)!!

Additionally, Minix are currently working on a beta Android 7.1.1 OS for the U9-H, (you can find it HERE). Hopefully the official release will be available in the near future, however, it won't be an OTA update. Obviously, you're welcome to try the beta as it is or wait for the official release.

now it is update to 17.6 and i try also the 18 beta

Which version of Kodi are you now actually running as you don't make this clear? 17.6, an 18 beta or an 18 RC? (If you're running beta's or RC's, then there may be unexpected problems & issues with any hardware!)

Like any hardware combined with 3rd party software, the U9-H isn't 100% perfect but it certainly isn't "broken" or "majorly flawed" as claimed in that statement. I get very few problems with my U9-H or Kodi 17.6 & those that I do experience are almost always due to software issues/updates (such as Google, etc.)

First ensure that in Kodi the settings are set to "advanced" or "expert".

Are you using external audio hardware such as an AVR/soundbar? Or just using the U9-H itself and/or your TV to decode your audio? (You don't make this clear either.). For example, I use Kodi 17.6 with audio passthrough to an AVR. TrueHD (& Atmos), & DTS:X/DTS-HD all work perfectly & obviously they are available options.

TrueHD and/or DTS-HD will only show up as choices in the audio passthrough options in Kodi's settings if the audio hardware you're using is capable of receiving/decoding them. If they're not showing up, double check the capabilities of your audio hardware (if applicable) or it could be an issue with how Kodi with Android is communicating with your specific external hardware.

Otherwise, as has been pointed out by @pusb87 in another similar thread on this forum; the spec sheet for the U9-H doesn't list support for TrueHD, & Kodi itself may not (yet) support it either. (Ergo, you'll probably get no sound & passthrough to capable audio hardware is required for TrueHD). However, the U9-H does support DTS-HD so you should still get sound from DTS:X/DTS-HD audio streams although they may be downmixed to LPCM in some cases.

If you've been trying all sorts of beta's, etc.... Have you considered trying a factory reset of your U9-H & try again with a completely fresh start?

it's setup to passthrough to an AVR (onkyo) with true hd and dts hd support

ry the beta android 7 but same problem switch back to android 6 fw008 (more stable on my setup for now
So fresh start makes no difference

for now i use coreelec for kodi on this everything works great
So setup our hardware from minix our fine
The software needs some More work I think

OK, that's unfortunate.

However, Minixs' stock Marshmallow OS is absolutely fine with regards to this problem :). It does work.

I use a Sony AVR. TrueHD & DTS-HD are both present, selectable & operating 100% perfectly in Kodi 17.6.

As previously stated, it could be an issue with how Android & Kodi are communicating with your specific AVR!!! If the problem isn't there at all with a different AVR, IMHO it's your AVR combined with other factors that may have these issues, not the OS.

I can supply screenshots of these features working properly if you wish ;). There was a separate thread discussing the best settings for Atmos & DTS:X recently in which others running the stock OS with AVR's or soundbars were also able to select & use TrueHD & DTS-HD in Kodi 17.6 without any problems at all.

Have you tried different HDMI cables? They can frequently be an issue with things like this & are often completely overlooked.

Are you absolutely certain all of the HDMI inputs on your AVR support all features? Have you tried switching to another input? For example, on my AVR Sony inexplicably decided to limit the capabilities of 1 of the 6 available HDMI inputs, the other 5 have full capabilities.

Try different hdmi kabel and ports
and on Coreelec it works so that can't be the problem.
Probably it is like you say an issue with how Android are communicating with my specific AVR!!
Kodi is not the problem I think I try different apps than kodi but same problem with true HD an dts HD not supported...
But if you read on this forum I am not the only one with audio problems on android !!!

Hopefully is gone solved on next update
For Now I am happy that Coreelec exists.
But It would be easy that I only need android if it's works like it shut be

Sorry to hear everything you've tried has still failed.

I completely agree. It would be nice if we could simply unbox our hardware & it all interacted 100% perfectly with any other hardware, or software that we use. Unfortunately, things aren't that simple.

As you've said, at least you've got a relatively simple workaround for your problem with CoreELEC :). It's not exactly what you wanted but you have got it working nevertheless.

It could be worse ;).

Having used the Minix U9H for 12 months now the conclusion is that it is in fact “Broken” the exist latest Fw008 software at best works well streaming but the interface is completely unpredictable, only hope the New OS is more stable, it certainly not worth the risk of pissing about with betas given the unstable history I’ve had with the last software. Get your act together guys as I bought the Minix UH9 on the premise I was buying quality and paid top dollar on that basis

I juist got a new reciver for 4k support.. (stil a onkyo) now true HD and Dts Hd are back in te settings of Kodi
Have to test of it works Without audio drops.
But it seems to be an issue with my Old reciver onkyo ht-r358 and minix for true HD support.

Sweet :).

It was a simple solution after all then, (albeit a costly one lol) ;)!!!

If the previously missing audio options are available in Kodi again then your new AVR will support them. It's highly unlikely that you'll have any further issues now.

Enjoy :).
