Hello All,

I have installed HBO App in my Minix NEO X8-H Plus and I face a problem when I try to open the APP. Instead of asking for login details it says that "No Internet Connection".
Off course I have Internet Connection, because I can open Net Flix and iother apps without any problem.

My android version is 4.4.2 with the following build version KOT49H.20170119release-keys.

Does anyone have the same or similar problem and could help me solve it?

Thanks in advance,
António Paiva

minimum req.
Apple devices with iOS 9.0 or higher, for a better experience, use iOS 12.0 or higher.
Android devices with OS 5.0 or higher.
Dont think it works with android 4.4

It should work, as it mentions this on the website:
https://helpcenter.hboportugal.com/en/devices-platform/what-android-devices-are-supported-exactly

I don't have one of those boxes and I don't use HBO Portugal. I wish I could help.

If you don't get anyone here to suggest something, and being HBO a paid service mentioning the 4.4 as minimum requirement in the website, maybe you should also consider contacting their help center.

Thanks for your reply.
Where did you get that information regarding the minimum requirements? Because I have a different information.
"
The latest version of the HBO Portugal application is generally supported on Android smartphones and tablets from major manufacturers that run the Android OS 4.4 (Kit Kat) or later.
"

Also, I don't know if I can upgrade ths OS of my box. Is this possible?

Best regards and thanks in advance,

Hello again,
HBO Portugal help center already replied to my question:

"We are sorry to inform that only version 7 and 8 of Android TV are compatible with our APP. Version Android 4.4 are compatible only for mobile devices."

Any solution?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Are you connected via WiFi or Ethernet?

Minix X8-H Plus is not an Android TV box, it is pure Android as in a mobile device.

That is the typical answer from the supporting centers that wish to shake the water out from the overcoat... (a sacudir a água do capote)

Well, at least you tried.

And so I went on and installed the app to my U1 (Android 5.1.1) and it started ok. Upon starting there are two starting modes: one for the Vodafone subscribers which is a bit dodgy as I had to click the white rectangle to access options, and another box by the side for the direct subscribers.

I don't have an HBO subscription to proceed but I'm thinking that in case you got the licence from Vodafone might that be it only grants you access if you are connected to the Vodafone provider (and that you might be trying to connect that licence through NOS or MEO, being that the cause of it not connecting? Just wondering...)

Anyway, it seems to be doing well in my Lollipop box, so maybe you should follow @pusb87 advice if nothing else works.

(I also had BS Player... Then I tried VLC, and forgot BS ever existed, just saying...)

Thanks (obrigado),
The problem is that when you search for this type of devices, it shows up as a Android TV Box, so they are trying to hold on that.
I am still trying, and answer it saying that I don't know what version are those (7 and 8), because I know that it works in a Android TV Box running 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Yes, I will try to follow @push87 advice, if nothing else works, because it seems that also in that link there are instructions on how to revert the update if needed. I have been using HBO in PS4, with the direct subscriber account, because I don't have Vodafone.

Thanks for your help e um abraço tuga também para ti. :)

read the thread and follow the link in the 1st post
Thanks,
I have follow all the steps that I saw in tutorial and also in some youtube videos but I'am not having sucess in updating.
It seems that USB Burning Tool doesn't reconized / detect the Minix. It does not showit listed in devices list.
I have even installed USB Burning Tool with the Minix connected (I saw some tips because of drivers installed)
I have tried in another computer with Windows 7, because my main computer has Windows 10.
I press the recovery button and the power button at the same time, the box powers on, but the only thing I can do it, is to start the Minix in recovery mode (I have connected to the HDMI input in my monitor, so I can see it).
Recovery mode with the following options:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from EXT
apply update from cache
wipe data / factory reset
wipe cache partition

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Hello again,

So, good news: I was able to update do Lollipop 5.1 using the SD card solution.

Bad news...HBO still doesn't work with the message: "Changed version, so in order to avoid malfunction the application will not open" - Something like that.

and now NetFlix doesn't open...with also a error

I would say that there is no way to get back to the original KitKat 4.4.2, correct?

Best regards,

I assume you got "Finless MINIX X8-H Plus Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) ROM 1.0" on there right now. Problem is that it's "rooted" !
A lot of DRM apps will not work with a rooted item. You need to unroot it with the included SuperSU.
Maybe you can ask a MOD here with help on that as I am not sure if I can post a link in the forum.
You dont need to go back to KitKat 4.4 .2 !
