I'm having trouble with watching my NAS content on my U22-XJ using Kodi 18.6

Not just for your LAN no, (in the simplest of terms) it essentially gives each individual device its own unique (hard coded) IP address ........ ;).

Just Google IPv6 for the basic details, or IPv4 vs IPv6 ;).

In addition to enabling a far larger number of unique addresses, this makes it easier for Goggle and others to keep up with every individual in order to gather and sell data.

Agreed ;)!! However, that's still not exactly difficult for them to do under the IPv4 system anyway, (unless specifically employing active spoofing where possible of course) ;). There are still countless other ways & means of tracking/monitoring or data mining end user activity/details respectively too if not actively shared with consent, from passive to active methodology.

That's potentially another undesirable side effect of rather than an issue at the core purpose behind the reasons for transitioning to the IPv6 protocol though, but yes, it could of itself be used for such purposes.

It also potentially allows the proverbial "big brother" simpler opportunities using unique identifiers for targeting & monitoring individual devices, & their activities/locations too if you really want to go down that particular road ;).

But, the simple fact is IPv4 was never designed to withstand the current load & there's just not enough addresses available to cope despite the increase in IPv6 usage/traffic.

Ultimately, maybe nearing that time to just get used to it if you purchase devices that aren't compatible with or have the choice to use both protocols in the future. However, IPv4 probably won't be going away anytime soon, (some estimates even cite decades), so the choice could well be there for quite some time yet for those with any reservations about switching to IPv6.

Certainly, for the time being & the foreseeable future there's really no need to switch to IPv6 if you don't want or need to :).
