ISO file playback?

Hello everyone. Quick question - do you know does the U22-XJ play DVD ISO files? Thanks!

ISO is a packed form of a CD or DVD. The question must be put some other way around.
Is there an Android software to unpack an ISO file? The answer is, yes.
Can you install that software in the U22? Yes!
Is there any app to read the unpacked DVD files once they get extrated from the ISO file? I tend to believe there is, and will try that for you but first I have a question:

Were you ever able to get hold of an Android app to do what you asked in a single push 'play' button operation, or is there something you expect the U22-XJ to do that was never done before with any other box?

Yes, it should be no problem. I’m sure Kodi will play them fine and also VLC media player too. Try those apps and you’re good.
This should be the case for all android boxes, not just limited to the Minix ones.

Thanks, @stoksyxl. As I had thought, this was not a Minix U22-XJ exclusive question. It is more an Android question after all. I am glad someone tried that already to have a straight answer. Nice to know those apps will read ISO content out of the package. I recall someone asking about DVD reading in the past, in a U9-H thread, and I believe Kodi was the answer by then with some add-on.

Thanks both. To answer the question CybeRider asked, I have some quite old ISOs of old holiday videos which I had converted from old camcorder tapes onto a sony dvd recorder, and which ultimately I exported ISOs from.

I used to play the ISO files on a hard drive connected to a WD TV Live box. And it's pretty much that which i am trying to replace, but don't want to get some cheap android box (such as T95 max plus which i was also looking at) if I can get something a bit more future proof and suitable for 4K when I upgrade my television! Thanks.

Well, I am getting some usefull ideas from you! Maybe it is time I throw my DVD player in the bin then. Unfortunately converting the DVD to ISO won't add pixels to the old 480p movies...:ROFLMAO:

can people tell me what this broadly does compared to the likes of the much cheaper T95 max plus? thanks.

The forum is not here to compare other brands to MINIX products!

We discuss MINIX and MINIX supported products, period!

If you would like to discuss and compare other brands ......do it else where.

It's very easy to search for reviews, specs and info these days, so no need to discuss them here ..... do your own homework !

Any further mention of other brands and the posts will be deleted/edited.......warnings or Bans may occur!

sorry midnight! I am gone way off other brands at this point preferring Minix from what I have studied now!

As a bit of a newbie, anyone care to give me the "main difference" between this and the T5? Is it just processing power?

Main difference...
T5 Android TV
U22-XJ Android

Thanks Villa. I've purchased the U22-XJ and an A2 lite. Probably more than I need but it's a bit more future proofed and I'll probably get more out of it in general.

Thanks everyone.
T5
Memory 2GB DDR3
Internal Storage 16GB eMMC

U22-XJ
Memory 4GB DDR4
Internal Storage 32GB eMMC 5.1

Hi @CybeRider
I've also played Blu-ray ISO files (1080p) with the WD TV Live box. :)

Hi @podgerodge
I have a MINIX U1 device and I tried to play ISO files but they didn't play.
While the same files were easily played by the WD TV Live box.
You should note that the WD TV Live box is a media player, but the MINIX U22-XJ is an Android device.
So as @CybeRider said, in the case of the U22 everything depends on Android.

Thanks Reza. I was assuming that I could load VLC or something similar onto the box, which should be able to play files contained in .ISO
What player did you try? Thanks.

A Google suggests there could be problem alright, perhaps I will have to rip the old iso's to generic files but I would lose menus etc..
